Samsung T7 SSD corrupting large video files on M1 Max

Hi I recently got a T7 Shield SSD for my Mac. I edit video daily and needed the SSD speed. However large files and even sometimes smaller ones continue to corrupt when I copy them to the drive. Artifacting, fame holds and generally corrupted video files if I export to the drive. Sometimes I have to copy files over several times for it to take, others it wont at all.

I noticed a similar issue with a Sandisk SSD but I also hear those are unreliable.

The T7 does NOT however have this issue when I test it on windows. I tried formatting it as APFS after it was ExFAT seeing someone else had a similar issue and that has not solved my problem.

I'm currently running 13.4.1 on a MBP M1 Max.

I am using the original cable supplied with the drive, and I have tried other cables.

Make sure to disconnect all other external devices from the laptop.

Connect the SSD directly to the laptop. Make sure to also try another USB-C port especially on the other side of the laptop.

Try booting into Safe Mode to see if you have the same issue. If Safe Mode works fine, then it most likely means you have some third party software installed which is interfering with the normal operation of macOS. Typical culprits are anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software.....none of which are needed on a Mac. Safe Mode may have some reduced functionality since it is preventing third party software from launching automatically during boot & login and sometimes even Apple hardware may be disabled since some built-in Apple drivers may be disabled as well or may utilize a more basic driver (the video driver many times will be a more basic driver where the screen may even flash/flicker or be slow to update/refresh).

FYI, you are behind on your macOS Ventura updates. Update macOS to the latest version of Ventura which I believe is now 13.6.

The new drive hasn't had any issues, I didnt have time to deal with Samsung or an RMA so I just returned it and bought a new one as it was brand new already.

Glad to hear you had that dual record, had this happen almost a decade ago when I was shooting with a MK II and I didnt have the backup. Ever since I make a backup save on another drive before I wipe cards.

Holy smokes... dude I've been pulling my hair out! I just purchased the M1 Max and am working off of a Samsung T7 Shield. I'm experiencing the exact same issues. I thought the issue might have been from an SD card or something, but it appears there are multiple people experiencing this. Please tell me you found a solution?

Samsung T7 Shield is formatted in Exfat for use between Windows and Mac. A batch of large video files from my Sony A7siii and Canon R5C play fine when copied directly from the card to the Desktop, but when playing off the SSD have frame drops, stutters, and general lag. Now I'm dealing with 2 days of corrupted footage from client shoots (yes, the cards have already been wiped).

Man, what a bummer. I've been talking to Samsung's support team all morning, sounds like they're going to RMA the drive since I only purchased it back in November. Did you find the replacement drive to be working? No issues?

I had 2 major projects on this drive that are now completely corrupted. Playback for any of the media files is a stuttery glitchy mess. And I already wrote over the SD card.. Thank the heavens I was using the dual-SD record function on my A7Siii.
