icloud duplicating files

Hi.i'm new to using icloud drive and i feel like an idiot but i've just noticed that in the iCloud drive folder on my hard drive there are multiple files which seem to be duplicates. a number 2 has been added to the file name. Does anyone know if this is an icloud issue or did I duplicate files and folders without knowing it?

relationship between a file on local drive and a file on desk top I have the same file on my local drive and desk top. The desktop is sync to iCloud. Why when I delete the file on my desk top, the file on my local drive is also deleted? When I try to rename the file on my desktop (to be different than the file on my local drive), same thing, both files are deleted. Need help please. TY

You likely duplicated your files.
