text overlap in emails on MacBook Pro
I recently updated my software and ever since, while composing emails, the text overlaps. It also sometimes happens on emails I receive. How do I remedy that?

The new update is specifically addressing the issue. I hope it's a proper fix.
macOS Sonoma 14.3.1
This update provides bug fixes for your Mac including:

The way to temporarily "fix" the overlapping characters display bug is to change the email window's width .. by dragging the right or left side. The bug seems to be relate to automatically reformatting and wrapping text as I type, which seems to be a problem in the display memory not the email content, since changing the width of the screen does not seem to ever cause the display bug.

I experience this behavior .. Note: The deletions and duplications disappear when I change the width of the email I am editing. LMK if it works for you please.

All my updates are done. The problem actually happened after the update.
Have you quit mail, shut down the machine and then restarted the machine...?
Launch the Mail.app holding the Shift key down and compare your results.

tried, didn't work :-/
Did you try changing the font...

Yes, I have also seen that changing the width of the email fixes it, so I can continue typing until the next instance and then I have to fiddle the width again.
It has come to light , a known bug introduced in the update—
you can file a bug report /submit your Apple Feedback here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/mail.html
Update: was with AppleCare for a few hours earlier, we tried a few things, got shot up one pay grade, didn't work, no case been sent up higher. I showed them our posting so they know. Having a call Tuesday again, need to buy a backup drive to try to erase the system and start fresh. Will keep you updated...
What I plan to do, when typing a longer email is to do constant screen captures as I type, so when it happens again I will have before and after images of just how it messed up. Then I will have something to show Apple.
I also started having the same problem of overlapping text in my Mac Mail app while editing my email on my Mac mini after I updated to Sonoma 14.3.
Yes, I am getting the overlapping text too. But sentences I typed previously just disappear. Then I delete a bit of what I typed and it will sometimes correct itself, re-displaying what went missing previously. Then I can start adding to the email until it happens again farther down.
I just sent feedback to Apple. Hopefully the next update will fix it?
I'm experiencing this behavior as well, but more similar to the user in this post. I start typing an e-mail and after a while text that I typed earlier will get deleted and replaced with text I had just written further down in the e-mail. It's absolutely bizarre. I'm experiencing this on a MacBook Pro M3 16" running Sonoma 14.3 and the same problem on a MacBook Air M2 running Sonoma 14.0. I'm seeing this in my Office 365 account in case it matters, but don't know if it happens in my Gmail because I don't draft long e-mails in my personal account.
The problem is intermittent and seems to rear its ugly head the most when I write a paragraph and then go back to edit portions of it and then continue a new paragraph. I hope Apple fixes this bug soon because its made the Mail app nearly unusable for me.
I have experienced "delayed word wrap" when I edit a line where a line break adjustment needs to be made on an earlier line, in Mac Mail on my new Mac Book Pro.
Has anyone else seen that bug?
On the other hand, on my new Mac Book Pro I haven't experienced the Mac Mail "overlapped text" and "duplicated text" display problems - which I did on my earlier Mac's.
