Why can't I connect my Phone to Mac's shared Wi-Fi?

Give this "first responder fix" a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following; 

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts 

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Hello guys! I am facing same problem over Sonoma 14.4.

Сheck if wifi is enabled on mac. First turn on wifi, then turn on internet share.

I am facing same problem over Sonoma 14.2.1

I have to restart mac to get internet sharing work!

Again, can you turn it off, change the settings, then turn it on.

If not, I would set it to not go to sleep.

It may be shutting down WiFi when it sleeps.

I think in Ventura, you have to turn it on and off outside of the configuration info section.

So, this Macbook Air M2/macOS 14.5 cannot share internet anymore (as far as I've tried).

I had another Macbook Air M1/macOS 14.4.1 actually, so I tried sharing the internet from that one yesterday, and it worked ok.

My only conclusion is internet sharing is broken in macOS 14.5.

So the way I do sharing:

ethernet cable > USB-C adapter (it's a Belkin USB-C LAN adapter) > macbook, and from there set up internet sharing in settings:

Share your connection from: Belkin USB-C LAN

To devices using: Wi-Fi

Hi where you able set the Wi-Fi SSID name and password when using the M1 Air on Sonoma 14.4.1?

I'm trying to host my Mac's internet connection to my other devices. But I can't set the password, nor I can't change my Wi-Fi SSID name from Wi-Fi Settings panel. I'm trying to change and click "done" but it never sets a password and shows the device a Wi-Fi without a password

What do you have for me to look at?

Turn it off, try to change to WiFi, then turn it back on.

Same problem. Running macOS 14.5 on a Macbook Air M2.

Exact same issue, Mac OS 14.5 on M1 Mbp + iPad Air M2. No way of sharing my ethernet's Mac connection to the iPad. Tried via "wifi" and "usb iPad" option.

My question would be why are you not using a standalone WiFi router to begin with? Much easier and more reliable.
