AirPods not connecting properly

I have iPhone 12 Pro Max and a pair or AirPods 3, and both have the latest updates. When I’m listening to music and someone calls and I answer, I have to manually change the audio to be on the AirPods, and it’s really frustrating, as this has never been an issue before. Could you suggest what to do, so I can have smooth experience, thank you!

Hello Relma856,

Does this behavior occur if you answer the calls directly on your iPhone or if you answer by pressing the stem on one of your AirPods? Make and answer calls with AirPods (3rd generation) - Apple Support

If you haven't already, try toggling off automatic switching, restarting your iPhone, then toggling this feature back on: Switch your AirPods to another device - Apple Support

  1. With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth. Alternatively, you can go to Settings > [your AirPods].
  2. Tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods in the list of devices.
  3. Tap Connect to This iPhone [or iPad].
  4. Tap When Last Connected to This iPhone [or iPad].
  5. To turn on this feature again, tap Automatically.

Cheers!
