Lag while clip skimming in the FCPX browser - Sonoma + FCP 10.6.10

I'm on a Mac Studio M2 max. Its pretty brand new, so I went all the way to Sonoma and FCPX 10.6.8. Everything is on the internal SSD.

I'm working on a project and I've noticed that when I play a clip in the browser then stop it to skim elsewhere on it, it takes a 1 or 2 second delay for the playhead to react and appear. The same manipulation on the timeline doesn't do that.

To make sure, I've created a new library with 1 clip in Pro Res Proxy 50% of 4k. The lag is still there.

I also have a base Mac mini M1 with Ventura + FCP 10.6.8 and the lag isn't present at all. So I'm guessing its a problem introduced by Sonoma and/or ver. 10.6.10. It might seem like a minor thing, but losing 1 or 2 second every time I play/stop and skim hundreds of clips, I fear it would amount to hours...

Is there anything I can do? Reverting to Ventura + 10.6.8 seems like a major headache, since I don't have a timemachine of my system yet.

You say "skimming" but in your screenshot it appears that skimming is turned OFF:

Are you really skimming or clicking and pressing space to play?

Please clarify.

Also: when the application is not behaving correctly, one the first things to try is to delete its preferences. To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting FCP X and click Delete Preferences. The application will start in a default state, and open an "Untitled" library. Reopen the library you were working on, set the preferences the way you like them, and try again.

Any changes?

Adding to the thread with a similar situation here:

Launch FCP. Skimming icon in timeline indicates skimming is active -- but it is not. Must toggle the icon off then on to activate skimming. Not a big deal for me but certainly incorrect behavior.

FCP 10.6.8

I have reverted back to 10.6.5 which has been reliable and skimming works as expected.
