I have a Toyota Argo and CarPlay worked with iPhone 12 and 14 but will not see the iPhone 15.
changed the lead, but have a aftermarket usb to usb c adapter but the usb c cable that came with the phone. Tried turning the phone off resetting the CarPlay in the car and into settings and handoff and CarPlay but nothing. But still will not see it. Any further ideas?

Wondering if your iPhone 15 has the most up-to-date iOS 17 version:
About iOS 17 Updates - Apple Support says iOS 17.0.3 is the latest.

Do they carry both power and data! seems Apple-approved USB-C to USB cables / Adaptors do:
Power & Cables - All Accessories - Apple

Apple don’t do a usb c / usb cable :-( and on Amazon most say they are apple compatible even if they are not :-(
