iPhone is answering calls when I haven’t even picked up the phone

IOS 17

In the last week I have had about five incidents where my phone will ring once and when I look to see who is calling, without even picking up the phone, the call has been answered.

I have had several other people tell me that my phone would ring once and be answered, but no one was there.

I have shut the phone down multiple times, but it is still occurring.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I have had multiple problems since updating to iOS 17!

It sounds like you are having your calls answer after one ring. We can help.

There is a feature that allows for calls to be answered automatically on your iPhone, and it might be enabled. You can check out the following to see if that might be the cause:

Tap Auto-Answer Calls, turn on Auto-Answer Calls, then set the duration of time before the call is answered by tapping or .

To disable this feature, turn off Auto-Answer Calls.

If you still have concerns, you can connect with Apple directly using either Get Support or if you're in a region without direct support options, you can also Contact Apple for support and service.

Happening to me and several of my friends. It will either not ring and show a missed call, but send to voice mail. Or ring once and send call to voice mail or answer the call even when I am no where near my phone.

May have something to do with the voicemail changes where you can listen to before deciding if you want to answer.

It is very annoying. There used to be a setting where you could say how many rings you wanted to allow before sending to voicemail. I can’t find that anywhere.

I did this inadvertently when I was changing how my phone answered. It was not an IOS 17 problem. Human error, my bad!

Thanks to technical support for helping me straighten this out! The technician who helped me was great!
