Why has the remote app on my Apple Watch stopped working with Apple TV? In the past I was able to control minimal functions with the watch for Apple TV. Since the latest update in Watch iOS, the app either crashes or does nothing. I have tried restarting the watch.

Use your Apple Watch to control Apple TV
Make sure the Apple TV is awake, then follow these steps:
1. Open the Remote appon your Apple Watch.
2. Choose your Apple TV, then swipe up, down, left, or right to move through the Apple TV menu options.
3. Tap to choose the selected item.
4. Tap the Play/Pause button to pause or resume playback.
5. Tapto go back, or tap
to return to the main menu.
Tip: You can also open the Remote app from the Now Playing app. In Now Playing, tap
, then tap TV Remote.

For what it’s worth, Apple Watch has started to fail for me too for Apple TV.
The problem started sometime before iOS 17/WatchOS 10, and has not been fixed by them. It sometimes works for a while, then fails again. The connection just fails.
The physical remote works fine. I have two Apple TVs, the connection failures happen with both. I have rebooted and reinstalled each device, checked the WiFi router etc. Nothing helps.
