Yahoo Mail emails (Inbox) missing on Mac OS Mail app

4 weeks ago on 22 sep 2023, my emails (yahoo.co.uk account) started to automatically disappear from my iOS Mail app as well as MacOS Mail app. I initially had the suspicion that my account was being hacked. Following which, I then had Yahoo account to re-initiate a recovery or restore of the account.


Having the account restored, I removed my yahoo account from both iPhone (iOS 16.6) as well as Macbook Pro 2016 (macOS Monterey 12.7). I've noticed a huge chunk of email from this year, Aug 2023, till 2021 missing.


I've attempted already 3 to 4 times removing Yahoo! account from Mac "Internet Accounts" and re-adding them back as per many advices found online from various websites. Looking back at my Yahoo mail online on yahoo website itself, I've noticed that all my emails are there and that none have been missing.


I've managed to come up with an idea to move those missing messages/emails from the inbox to a folder that I created and then move it back into the inbox. Doing such a method only prove temporary as at the beginning Mac Mail started to show up the missing emails in the Inbox. However, once I've completed all the missing emails that didn't show up on the Inbox on Mac Mail, it automatically reverted itself back to the state of which the whole chunk of email went missing. Moreover, more emails are now missing from the inbox.


I'm left clueless as to why and where these emails are now hiding or why isn't Mac Mail syncing back all emails from the Yahoo! server?



Much help is greatly appreciated if any knows of a solution?

When you are having trouble receiving messages in Mail, you can check the status of the account by following If you can’t send or receive email on your Mac. Additional troubleshooting steps you can follow are If you can’t receive emails in Mail on Mac.


If the issue continues, as you are able to add your email account, contact Yahoo! for help Help for New Mail for Desktop | Yahoo!

Dear Vero_F1,


I'm able to send and receive email on my mac as well as my iPhone.


Strange issue is just that both Mac Mail & iOS Mail reflect the same email quantity as well as the correct "missing emails" reflecting each other. However, on my yahoo!mail account online, all of my emails are there and that there are no missing emails from prior or even my folders created.


I've been at wits end for trying out countless times to remove and re-add my yahoo! mail account, not to mention, synchronising, taking accounts offline-then-online to try and get apple Mail apps on both devices to show up the missing emails (which are important to me due to work relations, obviously).


Should this continue and I'm unable to use Apple Mail apps productively then I might have to discard them reverting to yahoo! apps for mails, which Defeats the purpose, that we all want to use an Apple app.


Its just driving me nuts and having to revert constantly to web online just for my work emails.



I hope there is someone who has figured this out.

We appreciate you reaching back out in Apple Support Communities.


From what you are describing, a few emails that are showing online in your Yahoo account are not found in the Mail app on your Mac or iPhone. Have you checked to see they are in junk mailbox?


If they are not appearing in another mailbox, you will need to reach out to Yahoo support. The reason for contacting Yahoo is they control the mail servers and would need to look into this with you to why these few emails did not go to your Mac or iPhone. Your Mac and iPhone just download what's available on the server. Here is the link once more for you to use, Help for New Mail for Desktop.

I think there’s a fundamental issue between Apple Mail (for me on iPhone) and ATT/Yahoo Mail. All the emails in my Inbox will disappear when I refresh, and I have to close the app and open it again to be able to see the emails. But this is extremely frustrating as the Apple Mail app seems to have issues and I shouldn’t have to force the app closed and reopen it to get the app working properly.

FYI (Apple) I have downloaded multiple other mail applications and NONE of the others exhibits this behavior with my ATT/Yahoo Mail, so it’s not me or Yahoo, but must be on the Apple end of things!

Hi, I noticed the exact same behavior on my apple mail app. I checked yahoo mail and the missing email is there. I checked all other folders but this is not about spam or junk filters.

It is a very strange behavior. How can certain emails be filtered from the yahoo server download?

One additional note. I noticed this behavior because I was refreshing the inbox on apple mail app to receive a two-factor authentication code via email. I actually saw the email in the inbox but it disappeared in 2 seconds before I could open it.

Thanks, but definitely NOT that!

The inbox content just randomly disappears when you refresh…close the Mail app down and open again, and it will magically reappear.

There is some glitch between Yahoo Mail and the Apple Mail app that causes this random, periodic disappearance on inbox Mail. Doesn’t happen on any other iPhone/iOS mail app!!
