Did you have any specific questions about the information in the article? Your AirPods will update automatically when on the charger and in Bluetooth range (approx 30 ft) of your iPhone that is also on Wi-Fi.
Generally, if you plug in both your iPhone and AirPods overnight and make sure the iPhone is on Wi-Fi the AirPods will update overnight.
If you've tried this, but they won't update, then reset them and repeat the process. This will also help isolate out a potential issue with the active noise cancellation.
Should they still not update, contact Apple Support to take a closer look.
