iPhone 12 Pro Max acting as if it has always-on display after iOS 17 update

after the latest iOS update, my iPhone 12 Pro Max is somewhat trying to do some always on display magic when plugged in to a power outlet and it display just the text info in dimmed color without the background wallpaper. I'm not talking about the landscape mode wherein it displays a clock or something. Im talking about the actual AOD we get on iPhone 14 Pros and above. Anyone experiencing the same? Just weird. Hahaha.

Hi elchinito,

This may be expected behavior on your iPhone.

If you have Attention Aware Features enabled and it detects that you may be looking at the display, it will stay dim until you look away. It can also happen if you do not have Auto-Lock enabled.

Try adjusting these settings, restart your iPhone, and test to see if the display fully sleeps.

  • Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock > 1 minute
  • Settings > Face ID & Passcode > disable Attention Aware Features.

Does is still say on? Update your iPhone next. Apple just released iOS 17.1 today, and staying updated is the best way to ensure you apply their latest software fixes.

Regards.
