AirPods not transitioning smoothly between iPhone and Macbook Pro

Hi all,

I'd appreciate some assistance with the issues I am experiencing.

Most of the time I have my AirPods Pro 2 connected to my iPhone 13 Pro and MacBook Pro 14".

Say I'm listening to music on my MacBook Pro, and I receive a phone call, the AirPods don't ring/notify me. Unless I am wearing my Apple Watch or looking at my phone, I have no way of knowing that I'm getting a call.
After hanging up the call, I discover that the AirPods have disconnected from my MacBook Pro and I must reconnect them. I have to do this dozens of times a day.

For comparison, when using my Bose QC35 II headphones, they are "truly" connected to both devices simultaneously and never disconnect. If I'm listening to music on my MacBook and a phone call comes in, it rings on the headphones. And after hanging up the call, I may resume listening to music without having to re-connect to the MacBook.

You'd expect things to work much more seamlessly, considering the AirPods, iPhone and MacBook Pro are all Apple products.

Is this a known issue? Hoping for a solution.

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities! Your AirPods should switch automatically between your devices. Find the recommendations for automatically switching below from the article Switch your AirPods to another device:

"To switch between devices automatically1 with your AirPods (2nd or 3rd generation), AirPods Pro (1st or 2nd generation), or AirPods Max:

Make sure that you have an iPhone or iPad with the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, or a Mac with the latest version of macOS
Sign in with the same Apple ID using two-factor authentication"

If your software is already updated to the latest version on your devices, and you're signed in with the same Apple ID using two-factor authentication, a restart of your devices may help. Restarting can fix many issues. You may also need to reset your AirPods: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro.
