Perhaps this is a Faulty Device?:
You have a one-year, out-of-the-box, limited-warranty. They do not cover accidental damage. So, if you have the original receipt of purchase, and this has no physical damage to it, whatsoever, then Apple might cover it. So, contact them, asking if it can be covered.

I actually received my new 15pro max WITH A SCRATCH on the screen! I couldn’t send it back because I didn’t have any other phone. Normally apple care plus will do an express return and replacement, but I was told that I had to send the phone back to get a new one. As per a supervisor (finally) I was told that was wrong! a representative also told that the only way it could be replaced was to purchase another one and return the defective one when the new one comes- wrong again. But I purchased another one that’s coming in November, but the return window of the 14 days is over. Supposedly it was straightened out- I got an extension to return the damaged one in early November when my new one is delivered. We’ll see how that works out. So much conflicting information, I hope I have no problems when the time comes. I didn’t put a screen protector on the scratched one since I’ll be returning it. It has many more scratches, even though it’s kept in a dedicated phone area in my purse. The scratches are all coming from one side where the titanium meets the glass- it seems very suspicious to me.
I don’t want the phone, but there are no other choices. I’ve had every iPhone and iPad, over time, and NONE of them ever got more than very light scratches that were hardly noticeable. With all the great features, apple missed the boat on this one, and no upgrades will fix this problem- obviously.
I thought I read somewhere that the screen was more scratch resistant. Did anyone else?
liquid glass or stick on?
I’ll definite put a screen protector on the new one, but there is definitely something wrong with the quality of the manufacturing of this phone. How could it scratch so much? It’s a flaw. I wish enough people would bring this to their attention. It’s a big flaw.

All I can tell you is mine is not scratched and after 5 months is still not scratched.

I thoroughly agree with imateacher who states this flaw should be investigated. I have never had a problem with scratches on iPhones or iPad before until I recd my new iPhone 15, a present, tiny scratches have appeared on screen. What happens now
