iPhone speaker options

I’ve seen this questioned asked but the replies do not answer the question so I’m asking again. After answering a call and selecting the speaker option, why am I presented with the iPhone option and speaker option? I’ve already answered the call on my iPhone. If I’m selecting speaker, I clearly want just the speaker. I do like the option to be able to select other devices but when no devices are near, why am I presented with two options?

Hi Knittychik,


We can try to clear up the confusion for you.


The option isn't the Speaker option, it's the Audio option, and you're presented for where audio will be routed.


There is a checkmark showing where it's currently being routed, and there are other available options listed.


If you had a HomePod, that would be listed. If you had a connected Bluetooth speaker or headphones, those would be listed.


The option is where to send audio and also shows where audio is being sent. Therefore you see speaker and iPhone.
