For about 3 months, my tap to pay feature in Apple Pay has not been working. I am still able to use Apple Pay with the double click for online purchases so I know the actual CC info is correct and working and that nothing is wrong with my Apple Pay account. I even tried removing my cc info and re-entering, but the tap to pay feature is still not working. I've tried in 5-6 different retail stores. Any advice or suggestions?

I would check if the NFC reader in the phone work in other use cases.
For example if you can read NFC tags using a third party app.
For example either of these:
NFC Tools on the App Store (apple.com)
NFC-Reader on the App Store (apple.com)
If that does not work the NFC would seem to be the issue.
If that works, it's harder to say for sure.
If you can't read any NFC with the apps
Having done that you can try to isolate if this is a software issue or hardware issue by checking if it works after a clean install.
You can try a clean install of your device after a factory reset:
First make sure you have a backup
How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
Then facory reset your device:
Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
And set it up without a backup. See if the issue persists.
If it still does not work it is a hardware issue and will need service:
Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support
If that solved it there was a software issue. Try restoring the backup and see if it still works.

Apparently Express mode is on by default. A few weeks ago I took a NYC subway, swiped my senior metrocard and boarded. But the turnstile also read my Apple Pay and charged it for a full fare trip.
Correct, and I have mine turned off, but as I read the question the OP is expecting a retail store POS terminal to do the same. It cannot
If I understand correctly, you are having the issue with only one card and your other cards work for Apple Pay/Tap-To-Pay?
Same situation here. Over the past week or two my apple card is not working with tap pay. It works fine when I switch to another card.
I am also having this problem. It started for me on 1/6/2024. It is very frustrating.
Exactly what is happening for me, both before and after updating to 17.2.1. It is frustrating because my physical card does not have a tap feature.
This worked to fix the issue with my card and iPhone SE II.

My Apple Card has always worked, so it is not a universal problem.
Same, iPhone 13, but works fine on watch.
I’ve been updated and had no issue. Doesn’t matter what card I’m using same result / Apple Pay balance or Mastercard/Visa. In case out of case.
