iPhone 15 Screen Scratching Easily?

I've had my new iPhone since launch date and only just noticed a tiny scratch in the top right of the screen. It's not minor as I can feel it by running my nail along the screen and just very confused where it's come from. I always have the phone by itself in my pocket and haven't dropped it or anything similar at all.

Compare that to my previous iPhone 12 Pro Max which I never had a screen protector on and it's been dropped a handful of times with not a single scratch on the screen.

I don't have a screen protector atm so technically my fault, but I'm struggling to understand what could have scratched it so easily.

Ive had mine since launch, I also have had every iPhone ever, never wore a case or screen protector, I dropped those hundreds of times and never got scratches. My iPhone 15 Pro Max has more scratches on it in 1 month with 0 drops than any phone ive ever had in my life, my entire screen is deep scratches. it is terrible.

Recently switched to iPhone from Pixel. I’ve had this 15 Pro for 12 days with light use and zero drops. There are already noticeable scratches on the screen. Never needed a protector on my Pixels which I’ve dropped during the long time periods I used them. Not one scratch. I hope ATT doesn’t give me trouble when I return this POS tomorrow.

Quoting a description isn’t scientific diagnostic of the problem. I can tell from almost 17 years of personal experience with iPhones, (I have worked for Bellsouth/AT&T for all of those years) and have had iPhones since 2007. The difference glass between my iPhone 11 Pro Max and this 15 pro max is night and day. They have 100% gone to a cheaper glass, or have chosen a softer glass that is less likely to crack (though tests show this isn’t the case). Either way, glass that scratches from possible air particulate that is in the pockets of pants is absurd. I would bet a large pot of cash that Apple chose to save money on glass due to economic reasons, which is extremely unfortunate because the glass quality should be second only to internal component quality. It’s a shame they took this route.

All I can say is unbelievable. I am blown away that I logged in with the question iPhone, 15 easy to scratch screen and I’m finding this for him. I was hoping I was just a one off case. But it seems that this is becoming a frequent problem with the new glass on the iPhone 15. as many of you have had iPhone for many years. I go back to iPhone one. I’ve never had a phone that scratches so incredibly easy. And I’m wondering if there is a resolution? Please keep me posted.

They must be getting tons of calls for returns or replacements. I've had mine just a couple weeks before I noticed the micro scratches. They could've even gotten there in shipping/packaging. Nonetheless, this is unacceptable! There is no excuse for this. I baby my phone(s). The 15 is advertised uncased with no protection while jumping out of an airplane. I've actually considered not putting on a case. But out of habit, I did. Titanium is the strongest metal so you would assume this phone does not need to be handled like delicate blown glass. I was on the phone for an hour yesterday with customer support - initially they said it is a cosmetic issue and is not under warranty. I was heart sicken to hear this. These phones are the most expensive iphone ever made. The value is just not there. CS then passed me to sales and sales agreed to replace or allow me to return the device for a refund. I then asked for a replacement and asked for an Apple screen protector to be applied. She searched and they don't even make a screen protector!!! This one may be a flop. It sounds like they may have a problem on their hands. The jury is still out. QC, wake up! Maybe they will recall it. But in the meantime, I'm getting a new one and will apply an aftermarket screen protector. I also wonder if this was just a bad lot or a batch of substandard screens. So call them and give up an hour of your precious time if it matters to you. I bought mine on-line through the Apple.com Store.

I been doing searches for several posts related to previous generations, and indeed, the exists for the iphone 13, but a quarter of the me too that this thread have. We did an action over different countries, asking for the tech guys to recall most devices possible, and in the first tranche we recovered 150 of them. All of them had scratches, in parallel we did a recall on another 300 iphone se or 13 given at the same time, and guess what, the number of devices with scratches on screens are in 1 each 4. We explained this to our brm from apple and we are getting a full refund. For devices that are been used for 2months in some cases. So for us this means that they know that there is an issue. Mi advice is to escalate the issue to your br or to apple.

There is clearly a very big problem with the new iPhones. My 15 pro is covered in microscopic scratches and scuffs after 7 days of ownership, without any drops or falls.

Anyone interested in getting a new phone should wait until Apple is able to use/design a new glass. Do not waste your money… you will be very disappointed.

I will be returning this phone and going back to my 13, until this issue is resolved.

Curiously I got a small but easily noticeable scratch right across the dynamic island. At least it’s not really on the screen itself but it’s anoying and i dont know where it came from. I’ve only had this phone for a few months. I have a case but no screen protector cause i don’t like that. This iPhone 15 pro max seems more prone to scratching than others. I have had an iPhone XS Max for more than 5 years before with no visible scratch. This iPhone 15 pro max got one fairly visible in only 2 months of use. A bit of a disppointment for me given the price paid. Not sure of the reason why it appeared only on the dynamic island though. Maybe it’s random.

I had an iPhone X without a protector or case since it launched and there is only a small crack in the upper corner from a 6 foot drop on a cement tile floor. Other than that it is fine. I had my 15 since launch and it has two small scratches in the middle of the screen already and it fell off of a couple books, about a 6 inch drop onto my nightstand and it now has a crack across the bottom of the screen. Not sure what they did for this screen but definitely is not the quality of past screens.

People buy the iphone for its looks,a $300 phone could do the same if

not more, we pay $1000 for a luxury, high quality product and then have

to put it in a case with a screen protector so no one can see or touch

it? That is like putting a protective case over your Rolex. The 12 Pro

had a screen that resisted scratches it can be done and its what I

expect not scratches in days and I never even took it outside, Not

Happy.

Didn't think I'd get nearly 100 people in the same position, what a downgrade this year has turned out to be! I feel they could have forgone the titanium frame (no one ever asked for or wanted this) and invested in a better screen. To say a piece of glass can scratch so drastically from minimal handling and no real direct contact is just shocking and something Apple clearly are aware of as it isn't covered in the slightest by any cover.

It depends what you keep in your pockets, but it's not that particular iPhone, it's all the smartphones regardless they will get scratched and damaged if unprotected and kept into a pocket with other things like keys or metal objects. So a screen protector and case will do but even that won't protect the phones 100% if kept loose with other objects. There are people that don't care if it's getting scratched, and they don't buy any screen protectors or cases, prepared to buy a new iPhone more often.
