iPhone 15 Screen Scratching Easily?

I've had my new iPhone since launch date and only just noticed a tiny scratch in the top right of the screen. It's not minor as I can feel it by running my nail along the screen and just very confused where it's come from. I always have the phone by itself in my pocket and haven't dropped it or anything similar at all.

Compare that to my previous iPhone 12 Pro Max which I never had a screen protector on and it's been dropped a handful of times with not a single scratch on the screen.

I don't have a screen protector atm so technically my fault, but I'm struggling to understand what could have scratched it so easily.

An unprotected iPhone screen carried in your pants pockets may not be hosted in as pristine an environment as you think. When pants are washed, some reside detergent is left, which then when dried can turn into microscopic crystals. In addition we live in a world with micro-sand particles, which can accumulate in our pockets. You can't necessary see them, but when they are brushed up against an unprotected glass screen, these teeny tiny particles become abrasives and can scratch your iPhone screen. This is why I personally NEVER keep my phone in my pocket. Instead, I keep my phone in a belt clip case, which places the phone face down so it can't be harmed by anything. And I also make sure to put a decent quality screen protector on my phone right out of the box, to ensure the screen can't be harmed. I find it more amazing, people will pay $1000+ for a phone and not spend a few dollars more to protect it.

While I'm not going to post any links to articles, there are a number of really good, not biased articles about the new glass formulas on modern iPhones and scratch resistance. Google them. Simply said, the newer formulas are intended to make the screens harder to break, which since Apple moved to this glass is quite apparent. But when you make glass harder to break, that doesn't mean it's harder to scratch. In fact the opposite is more common. Glass which can flex more to avoid breaking, can be easier to scratch. So, it's wise to use a screen protector and this becomes a non-issue.

I’m also facing same issue whereby I bought in my country (Premium Reseller) and I didn’t notice that there is scratch at left top side. Never and ever buy Iphone with this condition. I bought IPhone 15 Pro last November 19 and when I bought this back to the store, they refused to exchange it and saying it might be human error but I asked the store to proof it which even I challenge the store leader to take a knife to scratch it but they don’t dare at all.

Unfortunately, this Premium Reseller isn’t responsible for any factory defect at all and I believe in other countries they might change it immediately to keep Apple’s name reputation.

This is very bad experience as the Apple Fan to know this IPhone 15 Pro is worst ever produced.

Better think 2 or 3 times before buying IPhone 15. Thank you

New phone with micro scratches! 15 pro max. I’ve owned every iPhone since the beginning of iPhones. I baby my devices. Because of the titanium feature I actually considered not covering this phone, but out of habit I got a case. The quality is definitely not what I’m accustomed to. I’ve never put any screen protectors in my phones. They never scratched. Not even a little bit. So I’m not sure what to think about the 15. So far I am really disappointed. And the phone was $$$$!

No one is arguing what Apple has said or not said. We are pointing out that suddenly the most modern up to date iPhone is prone to scratching whereas the previous models were not. I had zero scratches in 5 years of previous models. And several in the first 2 weeks of owning the 15. It’s become bizarre how incomprehensible this point is for you.

Well technically this forum is intended for peer to peer technical support (hence the advice given). It is not the place to go when wanting Apple to speak out or respond or help. Contacting Apple directly (via feedback, calling, in-store Genius Bar, chat/text initiated via the Support App) is how you get Apple actually involved.

It’s not about being pro Apple everything but advising people based on info that is available in the support articles, historical info (particularly for subjects that seem to come up every release), and generally understanding the practices of Apple (they have always kept most things close to the hip and rarely make public statements about fixes or issues until they have been able to prepare a fix or if they end up having to do a repair program for certain things). Unfortunately a lot of people assume that anyone not saying me too are somehow Apple loyalists that think Apple can do no wrong when in reality it’s understanding that bugs happen regardless of the brand, fixes don’t come immediately no matter how frustrating it may be, it is imperative that those with issues go beyond posting on here and getting angry when the suggestions to attempt all regular troubleshooting even if you don’t think it won’t work (which it might not but worst case scenario you attempt it and rule out that being a fix), and understanding that just because someone chimes in to let people know they aren’t experiencing the issue doesn’t mean they are saying the issue doesn’t exist for some. It just makes it clear that it is not universal and out of the millions of users Apple has it can’t be assumed that the issue is affecting everyone so there must be one single culprit (which if that were the case it would indeed affect everyone exactly the same. When that’s not the case then it’s time to do the tedious but necessary steps to rule out all kinds of factors that may be contributing….a daunting task that should help explain why most fixes from any tech company don’t come overnight).

Most users don’t post on these types of forums just to share info. They post because they are indeed looking for a fix or solution. It’s what drives most people to any such forum and why an issue may seem more widespread than it may be because most of the people posting are experiencing the issue (this goes for articles you read elsewhere that also post about the issue….which of course most of the comments on it will be from others experiencing it). Most of us can probably admit that what initially drove us to this forum was some sort of issue or needing help trying to figure out how to use something. When you’re not having issues you’re less likely to seek out support forums unless you are like some of us and like trying to help on a volunteer basis.

My own 15Pro256 scratched itself. I think it has a software bug because I don't understand how I could have scratched it in the first 2 hours when it was mostly charging and on the couch. I've had iPhones since the second generation. I have an XS for 5 years, and it fell off a motorbike at 80km/h without getting scratches. I think this one is made of plastic or something cheap anyway."

I have been using the new 15 for 1 day and noticed a scratch already when I went to put the screen protector on. It’s small, but obvious, and I have literally been using it while sitting on the couch for most of the day (Christmas afternoon/ evening) and stuck it in the pocket of a pair of sweatpants when I took my son to the doctor. One day, no drops or putting it on any hard surfaces, and already more scratches than the XR I just upgraded from after 5 years- and bought pre-owned!
