Apple Watch battery drains super fast after 10.1 update.

Series 7 Apple Watch. After 10.1 update my battery only lasts a few hours. I can literally watch the percentage go down. Rebooted the watch. Shut off background app refresh after advised by a friend. Still drains ridiculously fast. It’s essentially useless now. I’m out of ideas. Anyone else have this problem? This is crazy.

My watch used to last two days, even with me running an hour a day. I no longer run and now it drains faster. I have to put it on the charger overnight and again mid-day. Normally, it takes about an hour to charge. But there are days that it takes up to five hours to hit 100%. I haven’t added anything or changed any settings since I got it almost two years ago.

yeah, Apple tech support seems woefully unaware of this. The Genius Bar was like 'well, turn off background refresh and you uninstalled all the 3rd party apps, so, that's all we got'. This discussion was far more useful and you would think as long as it is, their Geniuses would be briefed on it. Sadly MobyFace does not actually install a version of the app on the phone and instead communicates through the Watch app and was clearly doing something to seriously ping the watch constantly, though I was not seeing battery drain on my phone.

I got an Apple Watch series 9 in September 2023. I use it mostly for fitness and to better my health. I updated my watch to 10.1 and it went from 100% battery to 35% in two hours. So I called Apple support and they did some diagnostics and had me recharge my watch on low power mode and then wait to see if the battery issue happens again. It did of course, so I called again and they had me unpair my watch from my phone and then re-pair my watch to my phone as a new watch for 24hrs and see if the battery drains again. It did happen again, my watch battery went from 80% to 10% in one hour. It also couldn’t fully charge because the watch was getting too hot. So, I took my watch into an Apple Store to have it sent out and fixed. I got it back in a week and nothing had been fixed, the battery was still draining within a few hours. So, I looked on these discussion threads and found that some people had taken off all the 3rd party apps and that seemed to fix the issue. So, I did that and it worked! My watch charged to 100% and the battery didn’t drain at all.

The MobyFace app was updated today to version 2.9.5. If you have automatic updates enabled it probably downloaded it in the background.

Apple is aware of the issue and a fix will be available in the next iOS update.

The best we can do is work together as a community and give possible solutions to fix this problem until an iOS update is released.

People saying it’s 3rd party apps well mine has none and still drains so I think it’s a bit of pot luck whether removing them works

It's not luck. It means that there is more than one cause for battery issues. If yours is not caused by improperly updated third-party software, it's caused by something else.

What troubleshooting steps have you taken?

I have same issue. I mean not exactly the same because I had 10.1 previously and it was fine. But yesterday I restored my iPhone 15 pro because I tried to achieve better battery results. After paring my watch (set as new) battery was draining way too fast. Unparing didn't help. Hard reset? Nothing. Moreover I have a problem with Infograph face. In the top middle circle I have a today's date. Above should be visible my next event or "no more event" or something like that. It worked before restoring. Now I doesn't. iOS 17 and new watchOS 10 are so buggy.

P.S. It is not only about this Moby app because I've never heard of it and still have a problem. Moreover I uninstalled every third party app and no luck.

Removed all non-Apple apps from S4 watch and battery life improved slightly, but still worse than WOS 9.6. The last few days Apple app complications have randomly stopped working. When I delete and reinstall an Apple app (such as heart rate, world clock, sleep, workout, and so on) the battery performance improves. However, my watch is still not as good as it was before watchOS 10.

Same here Took my series 6 to Apple Store for same issue. Since my battery health was 85% Genius bar recommended I trade it in even though diagnostics on watch were perfect. So now same problem with 2day old new SE watch. Called Apple and after additional 2 hours on phone and diagnostic tests i finally was told it is a known issue for some users. Now I have a case number and I’ve been asked to keep a log so they can gather data. This is nuts! Plus you shouldn’t have to delete apps just to get the watch battery to work! ! Didn’t this same issue happen with a previous update?

Still no improvement with 10.1.1. At the morning it was fine. After I installed third party app Watchla (for Tesla) draining started. Uninstalled it and still no improvement. Someone on other forum said that third party app has restricted background activity. Maybe. But still they can eat a lot of %. Moreover he admits that third party can have impact on something what will be draining you battery even further. what exactly? No one knows. I also added my card to Apple Pay. Is it a problem? Nevertheless. watchOS 10 is still a crap.
