I cropping old cropped photos

You would need to find a copy that you can revert, perhaps on another Apple device.

As long as a picture stays within the Apple Photos system, a "cropped photo" doesn't really exist. Photos does keep temporary copies of the of edited pictures for fast loading, but the app really just remembers the steps it took to produce that edited image. So when you load a an edited picture, especially for editing or printing, Photos actually loads the original image and repeats all your edit steps on the fly. So the original has to be there, or you get error messages.

If you can't revert, then somehow the picture must have gotten out of the Photos system and been re-imported-- maybe during a cleaning up or the use of some other app, or something. You need to find the device or app or backup from before the picture left Photos, maybe a previous phone or computer. Otherwise, the changes are permanent. Good Luck!

The only way to revert a photo edited by the Photos app is to follow "Revert an edited photo or video" in Edit photos and videos on iPhone. If the photo was edited on another device see if the photo is still on that device to revert. If it was edited with another app, reach out to the app developer to see if there is a way to revert the edit there.
