Apple Music stops playing after update to iPad OS 17.1

The music in the Apple Music app stops playing after one or a few songs after I updated to iPad OS 17.1. Even a force quit of the app does not help. Only a restart of the device helps.

Hi, similar problem since updating iPhone to 17.1. Tried closing down the music app, force restarting it, annoyed me all day! However just deleted the Music app, and reinstalled from the App Store and works completely fine now. Hope this helps 👍🏻

Same. I mainly use my 6th gen ipads as a glorified mp3 player for my break music in between my live performance music sets. I have really liked Apple Music up until now. I realize I could just buy a newer ipad but am not really wanting to spend more $ for an mp3 player. I already give Apple $1-2k/year between phones for kids, laptops for college-etc. They should at least make their stuff work a little longer.....

Everyone just needs to switch to Spotify. I already give Apple $1k+ a year for 5 iphones and college laptops. I have enjoyed Apple Music and my custom playlists for years in my ipads but am not wanting to spend more money on a glorified mp3 player/not ready for a new ipad. If they’re gonna ignore us this will ouss a lot of us off. The wasted time and not acknowledging the problem is unacceptable

Well thanks Mr.Obvious 🤦🏾 , and heres my opinion on this “important” update. It’s borked the app so much more, to the point that I haven’t touched this app on my iPad at all now, because all it does is crash nonstop and all that does is make me livid.

Frankly, I’ve lost hope in Apple ever releasing the 17.2 update that kills these glitches before the end of this month, and by that time my 2023 replay list that I worked hard on curating, will now be ruined permanently because of how behind it will be by then.

Feeling angry and disappointed right now. Today, Christmas Day, we held a dinner at my church. I was to supply the music. Even though I am at 17.2 on my iPad, my music played for a while, then just stopped. I would shut everything down and restart it (sometimes 2 or 3 times) and it would work for a few more minutes then stop again! I tried my iPhone 14P (on 17.2.1) and it would do the same thing. I spent the whole evening babysitting the music to try and keep in running instead of relaxing and enjoying my meal.

I’m not surprised by your anger, this is the ‘core’ of Apple and for it not to work for so long is very hard to get over. I’m finding that I’ve lots trust in it. Mine is similar, keeps stopping as before but it does go for longer than it did. Waiting for the next version as it’s coming but whether I stay is doubtful now.

This thread does not seem to be posting things in order. Yes, I posted a day or two ago that I was responsible for providing the music for a Christmas dinner at church, and the music kept stopping all the time. I’d have to fool with it to get it started again, then a few minutes later it would stop again. It sort of spoiled things. While better than 17.1, 17.2 (and 17.2.1) still has not restored proper operation. Very discouraging!

I have the exact same issue, the music stop after 30 to 40 minutes, no matter if I download the music or not. It happens in my iPhone 11, and today it just happened in my brand new iPhone 13. No help from Apple support at all, it’s like talking to the wall. Any ideas? seeing all these posts, it looks like there isn’t any resollution at all. Too bad Apple, so freaking expensive products and terrible software

Reading this and other threads you’ll see how many things we’ve all tried to fix our problems, with the hope that the next upgrade will be the solution. So far so bad for me. Some people have found recent updates have worked for them, but I have a 7th gen iPad and I’m still having to force restart it daily because my music is still freezing up. I’m convinced I’ll probably have to get a new iPad for Apple Music to work properly again. Apparently if you have a 9th or 10th gen they never had this problem. Planned obsolescence? Definitely crappy customer support.
