I know, I know, first world problem here, but the Batteries widget for my Logitech MX Keys Mac keyboard shows as a mouse rather than as a keyboard, while it displays as as keyboard in the Bluetooth settings (as it always has). Anyone else notice this issue on their end with macOS Sonoma?
That doesn’t explain how apples own older Magic Keyboard is able to report its battery status to macOS via the Bluetooth tray icon and settings pane but is not displaying in the widget though. I would again be questioning the coding of the macOS widget. Why is it that when it queries/searches for Bluetooth connected devices and their statuses, it gets back information that is conflicting with its own Bluetooth screens. The very same mx keys keyboard shows as a keyboard in the Bluetooth pane therefore macOS knows it is a keyboard, so why doesn’t the macOS battery widget?
I'm having the exact same issue on Logitech's Craft Keyboard, so it's most certainly not only the Logitech MX Keys.
I just recently started using the battery widget and was confused why I had what looked like two mice connected! haha Very confusing. Like others mentioned, I had to made the widget large to differentiate between my mouse and keyboard. Frustrating for sure!
BTW, everything is up-to-date . . . so still an issue apparently!
I like to blame Apples widget makers, because on which (additional) information is the widget based on, if not the essential information from the BT settings, where the MX Keys (mine is the YR0073 dual-layout | FW:12.1.13) not only get text or category "keyboard" but showing the keyboard settings button.
As far as I see there's only "business", just "s" and "s for mac" listed on Logitech website. (Mine is not the mac version)
Making it extra hard for keyboard makers? I don't believe there is one additional (hidden) BT connection for battery and maybe some mouse functions that suddenly blend over the keyboard connection. But maybe it's deep in the BT controller to "send battery level as mouse" and not patchable.
Not nice, but happy I replaced my MX Keys with a slightly more ergonomic 96% from Epomaker and happy it's showing correct.
I don't use the keyboard. You might ask Logitech Support

Perhaps try plugging it into another port?
That's how the Logitech MX Keys S keyboard Logitech sent me displays.
I seriously doubt keyboard makers are going to "retrofit" keyboards to talk to the widget. Just have to use newer keyboards that work.
Exactly my problem and I have been going back and forth with Logitech to get it corrected. Based on their responses so far, it sounds like an issue they knew nothing about and are trying to find a way to correct it.
I got a strange request from Logitech regarding this issue and I wanted to get your take. Below is their latest email to me containing the request.

One would think a company the size of Logitech can and/or has the ability to do this on their own with a Mac running Sonoma and wouldn't need me to do it for them to replicate the issue. Thoughts?
Edit: I responded and told them rather than me making a video that they go here to find out how to work with widgets in macOS Sonoma.

The likelihood of Logitech having the same Mac, configured the same as yours, with the same software installed is unlikely.
I have not responded back to them yet.
You might as well. That doesn't guarantee a fix will be forthcoming.
I have both the apple Magic Keyboard with batteries, and an MX Keys, so I am having both issues. What I really cannot understand though is how MacOS is identifying and reporting device type and battery levels completely correctly in the bluetooth tray but not in the battery widget. I think the real question should be to Apple rather than the 3rd party hardware provider - where on earth is the battery widget sourcing its information, and why is it not the same place that the Bluetooth tray icon and settings are sourcing theirs?
Exactly. I'm hoping they can come up with a fix, but I'm not holding my breath since they are letting me keep the MX Keys S rather than return it as a show of their apologies/appeasement.
Edit: Could still be an issue with Sonoma since the Bluetooth section does show the MX Keys Mac as a keyboard.

No it doesn't. The simple fact is we may never know. Knowing the reason won't change the fact some keyboards don't work with the Widget.
I'm having the same issue using the MX keys. The icon in the widget is wrong despite appearing correct in the bluetooth menu. AND, another issue I noticed after updating to Sonoma OS was that the "delete" key stopped working in the OS environment. It works when I'm typing or general apps, but it used to work on finder and desktop when I wanted to simply delete some file. Now I have to use the old 'cmd + backspace', which I always thought as a nightmare.
