IOS 17.1 Apple Music stops after a couple of songs on 6th Gen iPad

So - do people have any confidence that Apple will fix this? Mine has been pretty shattered at this point.

I’m thinking about making an Apple Genius appointment and demanding that they roll my iPad back to iOS 16.6 or so.

I was hoping to replace my iPad 6th gen with a 12.9” iPad Air sometime this year - for music reading apps. Need a few months more serviceable usage from my current device.

Me as well, right after I downloaded iOS 17.1, have 6th gen iPad, at first I thought it was my Bluetooth speaker but clearly Not. The simple solution of restarting iPad or closing music app & opening did absolutely nothing . I’m waiting for a quick update solution for this bug.

Re "quick": I think that (at least for some) this issue and - more significantly - the slow resolution thereof has damaged the confidence we've had in the company. Previously I was happy to have auto-update enabled, but no longer. I guess henceforth we'll have to see how people respond to every new update before we install it ourselves. For someone who doesn't have an iPhone (but now a MacBook Pro and two iPads) it also puts a serious dent in my willingness to switch everything over to the Apple infrastructure.

After updating to iPad iOS 17.1.2 I’m now plagued with the same technical issues regarding iTunes freezing and not responding. I’ve done the factory reset and even recover from a backup and still no resolution to the problem. I wish I never had put all my eggs into one basket. 😩

Completely agree with the previous poster. Older products have a shelf life. I’ve run out of space on my 6th gen, and freeing some up to install 17.1 on the promise of improved music was a monumental error. I very much doubt they’ll fix this problem as they don’t care.

Extremely disappointed with Apple and feel very let down by them in regards to the iOS 17 download issue causing Apple Music failure. No doubt there is something buried deep in the small print but it's just not good enough Apple. I have bought albums through Apple Music but can't listen to them via my iPad which I normally have connected to my HiFi and use, or rather did use extensively, when I work from home. I converted to Apple a number of years ago after growing frustration with PC and their never ending and poorly managed updates. Apparently they are much better now, so is it time to go back to PC. I had a service that I have paid for by purchasing your products Apple and you have taken it away from me because of your failure. I don't want this fixed sometime this year, I want it fixed now. Are you even listening Apple or is it the case that you simply just don't care?

@Fakeaccent: So far, so good. I've used it for extended periods and connected to a variety of Airplay and Bluetooth devices. No more issues with the 9th gen.

No idea what I'll do with the 6th gen now. Might have to pay someone to take it. ;)

like everyone else, I’m extremely frustrated with this issue.

this morning I was able to play a few tracks and thought it might be fixed but everything is frozen again.

I’ll call Apple today but it doesn’t sound like they will be able to do anything to help me. (iPad 7th generation)

That’s good to know. So 9th and 10th gen look to be fine, anything older than that the outlook isn’t so good. I’m sure there is a target for iPad upgrade sales before a fix comes alone, if it ever does. How many people will bite? I’ve got a lot of money invested in iTunes purchases and the iPhone doesn’t offer as good sound quality as an iPad or MacBook with Bluetooth devices.

I have been making comments on some tech journalists Instagram posts where they all seem to be praising the updates without acknowledging this problem. I encourage everyone to spread the word or we’ll be faced with forced upgrades/purchases to get our music back.

I've now spent hours talking with customer support, including in the Apple Store. It's now been more than 2 weeks since 6th Generation iPad owners have had working music on their devices. How much longer do we have to wait? And, why is Apple completely silent? Shouldn't Apple be apologizing to its customers? Shouldn't Apple be assuring its customers that fixing this problem is its highest priority? Shouldn't Apple be giving its customers an estimate of when the problem will be fixed? Why Apple chose to release this update during the holiday season when people are buying presents is beyond my ability to explain. Who wants to give our business to this company when our devices aren't working properly? I am so frustrated and angry with Apple!!!

greenblue03: I agree with everything you’re saying here. I would just like to make one correction. If you look at the date of the original post, you’ll see that it’s actually been more than 6 weeks that most of us have been dealing with this, which makes it that much more egregious that we are being ignored.

I had planned on buying a newer iPad ( I have a gen 7) but all of this made me angry and wary. I ended up purchasing a gen 9 after someone poster that the most recent update worked on the 9. Well, I’ve been able to restore my entire music library today and everything seems to be working just fine. Planned obsolescence perhaps?

I teach fitness classes to , many years of music and playlists and Les mill’s releases….. I’m gutted !!!

5 hours on a call to apple, told next update will fix it ! It didn’t!

what do I do next apple ???? Do you care ???? This is my Job !!!

I have just rebooted for the fifth time in the last 30 minutes trying to listen to music. I haven’t had a day since the last update that I haven’t had to do this. I’m sick of paying for this to not work properly.
