Can't share to Instagram from Photos. iOS 17.1

After selecting a photo in the Photos app on my iPhone 11 ProMax, I select the share option and get what I'll call the "share sheet". When I select the Instagram icon either by momentarily pressing the icon, or long pressing the icon and then selecting "share with app", the screen dims and the app freezes. If I choose Facebook, the app acts normally, allowing me to share. My iPad has the same issues. I have deleted and reinstalled Instagram and hard rebooted both the phone and the iPad. Both iPhone & iPad have iOS 17.1 installed.

I was experiencing the same issue and initially discovered it during local development of another mobile app on iOS. Since updating Instagram this morning 10/31/23 to 307.0, it appears to be resolved!

Try to update instagram. There is a new version (307) which solves the issue.

New update fixed the problem, 307.0. I deleted and reinstalled Instagram.

I think IG *just* rolled out with an update like, within the last two days or so. The update resolved the issue for me. Yay!

I uninstalled and reinstalled instagram and facebook and it was resolved. Iphone 15 pro max 17.1.1

I got the iPhone 15 pro max a week ago and I have the same issue. When I try to share a picture on instagram story from photos the screen turns black and freezes but if I’ll share it as a post or a DM it works fine. If I upload the photo from the instagram app as a story it works perfectly too. Makes zero sense. I never had this problem before but seems like everyone has it with the new iOS. Hopefully it will get fixed with a new update.

I believe it is an Instagram problem. I have Facebook installed, but I seldom use it. There are setup items in Facebook that affect Instagram. You might consider installing Facebook as a last resort. Pay particular attention to the privacy settings.

I’m really thinking this is an Instagram problem. I would recommend going through your privacy settings in FACEBOOK…My problem was solved with an Instagram update and tweaking the Facebook settings. Good luck.

My Iphone 15 Pro is having the same issue. must be a bug that needs fixing. Recently Insta has not been playing well with Iphone - iphone battery was heating up with Insta and now this.

An Instagram update solved my problem. Suggest deleting and reinstalling Instagram.

Have 2 iPhones, both SE 2022, and on both am having the same issue. Airdrop from iMac to phone, accept, select photo in photos app and immediately when press ig icon the app freezes. Impossible to post to ig.

Me too,

I'm so very frustrated with this issue. First time switching from Android to IG and I've been disappointed big time!!!..

I have allowed full access to photos, but I still experience the same problem. Everytime I want to post photos from my "photos" app to IG story, the IG page went completely dark and all my photos disappear right away. I had to literally restart/wait for a few moment before all the pictures in the "photos" album re-appear. APPLE please do something about this!

I have the same issue. It looks like share option works with other social media but not with Instagram. I also tried to share content from Garmin app but still same issue. iPhone 14 with iOS 17
