Notepad ++ equivalent app for MacBook Pro

I'm new to Mac. Can someone suggest me the Mac version of Notepadd++ tool please.

Writing Tools feature not appearing on my MacBook Pro after macOS 15.1 update I have a MacBook Pro 2020 with M1 chip and just upgraded to Sequoia 15.1. I have played around on Safari a bit and the new features are there. Now I am trying to use Writing Tools, but it is not found anywhere. How to create a .textClipping? In the past I've created a number of .textClippings by selecting text in TextEdit, then dragging the selection to the Desktop. When I try to do that now – first selecting the text, then placing the cursor within the selection and dragging, the selection is deselected, and dragging just starts a new selection from that point. I can't drag the selected text out of TextEdit. Oddly, a search of Apple Support and this forum finds no mention of that feature. Anyone have a clue? This is in macOS 11 Big Sur, though I've done this in numerous previous versions.

You might consider the Apple Silicon (not the Intel or Universal) build of the free Visual Studio Code for Mac. The Notepad - Text Editor in the Mac App Store is a plain text dumb editor.
