mac cpu at 90+% without any apps running

I am using a Mac Pro 2013. I know it's a bit old BUT it was working perfectly until the 12.7.1 update. Now the CPU (3.5 GHZ) would reach at 90% RANDOMLY without any apps running. And it would stay like this for 10 to 30 to ~~ minutes. I can't do anything when it does this. Apps for work, Zoom mtgs would die--which is so frustrating. WTF is going on? There are no updates or solutions available.

You have too many non-Mac-native sharing service that are actually running, chewing through computer resources. even ONE such service, because it is ported form that other operating system rather than being re-written for Macs, punishes performance by searching through your files AND the files on the share NON-STOP looking to update anything that has changed the MOMENT it changes.

This convenience costs you Dearly. In my option, TOO Dearly. You should only launch these non-Apple sharing services when you want to store something, then quit immediately thereafter.

Mac Native sharing such as iCloud, uses The Mac File system Event store to determine in an Instant what has changed, so they do NOT need to search, and they do not punish performance.

This is likely another performance problem. Your spotlight index, and possibly the Directories of your drives, are messed up:

Top Processes Snapshot by CPU:

Process (count) CPU (Source - Location)

mdworker_shared (43) 285.08 % (Apple)

mds_stores 261.62 % (Apple)

kernel_task 20.10 % (Apple)

mds 19.90 % (Apple)

WindowServer 9.86 % (Apple)

Those tasks work on the Spotlight index, an index of every file and every word in every file on your Mac. it is used for spotlight quick searches, and also for Time machine rapid backups, but the report says you are not using Time machine.

>> I dearly hope you are suing SOME other form of local Disk-based backup. If not, we should talk about that.

I recommend you run Disk Utility Repair on each of the Volumes on each of your drives.

After that, I recommend you rebuild the spotlight index. Making the request takes a moment, fulfilling the request can run an hour or more of awake, not-busy, background computing time:

Spotlight index problems are consuming a lot of CPU power. That is not normal. Regardless of whether you use spotlight search, spotlight features are working in the background dong many things. You DO need to rebuild the spotlight index.

By far the easiest way to cause poor performance, instability, overheating and crashing is to install ANY third-party speeder-uppers, Cleaners, Optimizers, or Virus scanners. or a VPN that you installed yourself.

The idea that a third party, with no special knowledge of the inner workings of MacOS, can somehow find a simple way to protect your computer — that is not already being done by MacOS itself — suggests that the MacOS developers are somehow "holding out on you". That is absurd.

You should remove any and all (other than Apple built-in) virus scanners, speeder uppers, optimizers, cleaners, App deleters or VPN packages you installed yourself, or anything of that ilk.

Third-party file Sync-ers such as DropBox, BackBlaze, OneDrive, or GoogleDrive can ruin performance, but are not inherently dangerous.

CleanMyMac has a reputation for trying to delete important parts of MacOS, and to go FAR beyond it stated cleaning purposes. For example, it assurance that it has checked for Viruses and is shepherding dropbox and checking performance. You should remove it at your earliest opportunity, and hop you do not require a MacOS re-install.

There are already much better tools built into MacOS to do all things things and more. Buying CleanMyMac and other third-party programs is a vote that the built-in tools are inadequate, and the source of my comment that the MacOS developers are holding out on you, and not protecting you adequately, not cleaning properly, etc. since you need MORE than they provided.

One way to find out where your processor cycles are going is to use Activity Monitor. another is to download and run this little 'discovery' Utility, Etrecheck, and run it (it does not even have to be installed). Its report is already pre-sanitized of personally-identifiable items, so is safe to post back to the forums, provided you fools the directions for posting.

you have a few badly-installed or badly-removed and likely out-of-date extensions that could be using problems. These should be removed:

System Extensions:

[Waiting for authorization] sjpulsene - version 0.1.12.6065 (DISQO, Inc.)

Application: /Applications/SJ Pulse.app - version 0.1.12.6065 (Not found!)

Kernel Extensions:

/Library/Application Support/Symantec/AntiVirus

[Not Loaded] SymAPComm.kext - com.symantec.kext.SymAPComm (100.1f1 - SDK 10.8)

and:

/Library/Extensions

[...]

[Not Loaded] SymIPS.kext - com.symantec.kext.ips (Symantec, 3.5.1 - SDK 10.8)

[Not Loaded] ndcengine.kext - com.symantec.kext.ndcengine (Symantec, 1.0 - SDK 10.8)

Silverlight is obsolete and no longer supported by its maker and should be removed.

Un-signed items are a security risk, and may not be what they are named or from whom they say they are from.

these should AT LEAST be updated with most recent versions, otherwise removed:

Unsigned Files:

Running app: ~/Library/Google/GoogleSoftwareUpdate/GoogleSoftwareUpdate.bundle/Contents/Resources/GoogleSoftwareUpdateAgent.app/../../MacOS/crashpad_handler

Running app: /Library/Printers/Sharp/Filters/pstomx2310ups MX_3111U__1508032Y00_

Plugin: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/SharePointBrowserPlugin.plugin

Plugin: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Silverlight.plugin

Preference panel: /Library/PreferencePanes/SymantecQuickMenu.prefPane

Apps: 3

Etrecheck is a "discovery" Utility. It fixes NOTHING. You don't need to pay for the comprehensive add-on unless it is something you WANT.

Etrecheck reason for existing is to create a report from the INSIDE of your Mac, pre-laundered of any personally-identifiable information, that can be posted back to the forums for readers to help with analysis. It has sections on memory use, CPU use, energy use, and lays out how your drives are set up, and sections on how they are performing. and has a section on recent problem reports logged. Tools include unsigned, obsolete, damaged and kernel extension not allowed software.

But by itself, it fixes NOTHING.

I have not installed any of third-party speeder-uppers, Cleaners, Optimizers, Virus scanners, or VPN -- except for CleanMyMacX. I've had that app installed for years (maybe since 2013) and it worked perfectly well and was very useful.

Only when I installed the macOS Monterey did I receive these problems.

I also don't know what you're talking about. Who suggested that "Mac OS developers are somehow holding out on you" ? You're putting words in my mouth that I never said.
