Safari Address Search Bar VIRUS

Hi.

So I've gotten an Adress Search Bar suggestion Virus in Safari on Monterey.

Where if I write a certain website name the search bar suggests an obvious weird virus website and says this is the "Best guess" from Google or something.

Tried Disk utility.

Tried reebooting.

Tried clearing all cache.

Tried obviously clearing history of any such website name which didn't exist anyway.

Turned off all Safari suggestions for the search bar.

Nothing works.

Grateful for any additional suggestions and solutions.

Screenshot of the obviously weird website suggestion here:

I say it's a virus because I've had a similar thing happen on my old Mac that runs High Sierra.

Where it would change the website or search engine of the Safari browser.

That virus was easily gotten rid of by just rebooting the computer.

This virus however persists.

I've found a website citing how to remove it with no luck.

But of course such websites may be the actual originators of such viruses in order to get the user to download "antivirus" software from them to get rid of the smaller virus and so on.

When seeking a remedy for these problems, the first thing to keep in mind is that terminology is meaningful. There are no viruses that affect macOS so if you go in search of that remedy, all you will find are scams. So just forget that idea. It is not a virus.

That's a different problem. Website redirects are not viruses either. They are the result of something you installed.

That brings us to your original concern, which is that you type a few letters into Safari's "Smart Search" field and it autocompletes with something you do not want. That's not a virus.

When you select Google as your default Search Engine, it captures and uploads every single keystroke, every space, every backspace, everything you type in that field, in real time. Google does exactly what you wrote: it makes a "best guess" based not only upon your Internet activity, but what Google wants you to see. It automatically populates that field with that result. That's how it works.

If you don't want Google to do that, don't use it. Use something else. To change Safari's Search Engine read Change Search settings in Safari on Mac - Apple Support.

On the other hand if you want to help Google exploit you to serve even more of its own purposes, you can report what they call "inappropriate predictions" to them by clicking that link at the bottom of a Google search page.

No my google address search bar only suggests websites I have visited. Which means you're wrong in your assessment.

It doesn't suggest other websites period, EXCEPT for this one.

Your explanation of the website redirect is wrong too.

Why if it was something I installed, why would it be automatically uninstalled by restarting the computer.

That means it wasn't installed by me at all as no installed software vanishes upon rebooting like that.

Also I think your focus on Google is erroneous too.

This is a bug in SAFARI only. It doesn't occur in other browsers when using Google as well with the same account logged in.

Why would I have to report "inappropriate prediction" when my settings for suggestions are completely turned off in SAFARIS settings to begin with. That means it's a problem with Safari, not google.
