Issues with iOS 17.1 update on new phone

Hi all, I received a replacement Iphone 13 pro max from my insurance company. I've attempted to set it up transferring data from the Iphone I'm currently using, however when I get so far in the set up it requires an iOS 17.1 software update. This goes according to plan until the "install now" stage and then it just sits with the flickering circle of doom and nothing happens. I've tried re-booting the whole thing and starting again several times. I've waited for hours. Both phones are fully charged. I'm attempting to put iOS 17.1 on to a brand new phone which should have 128 GB capacity. I have contacted the insurance company who have swapped the replacement phone no problem, but the same thing is happening with the replacement phone! I try and swap it again and go for third time lucky but thought I'd see if anybody else has had a similar problem or any ideas on how to get this sorted? Many thanks

To update over the air from the phone all of these requirements must be met:

  • To update over the air from the phone all of these requirements must be met:
  • You need at least 10 GB of free storage for iOS 16 and later or 6 GB for iOS 15 or lower; more is better
  • You must be connected to a Wi-Fi network (and not a personal hotspot) unless it is an iPhone that supports cellular 5G (12, 13, 14, 15 or SE 3rd edition) and has a 5G network connection
  • The phone must be charged to at least 50%, and preferably plugged in so it stays above 50% during the update
  • The phone must not be in Low Power Mode
  • The phone must not be connected through VPN, and it may be necessary to delete any VPN apps and VPN profiles
  • The phone cannot be in Airplane mode and must have a cellular data connection
  • You cannot still have a beta of a previous version installed on the phone
  • You cannot have a previous version that was downloaded, but not installed - go to Settings/General/iPhone Storage to look; if you find an iOS installer, delete it

If you can't meet all of them you can still update using your computer.

Have you checked for an update of the Google Meet app in the App Store? If it is up to date contact Google’s support site.

Another possibility is if you use VPN on your iPhone. After an update is is frequently required to remove the VPN profile, restart the phone, and add it back because the VPN profile is customized to match the iOS version when it is installed.

The first step in resolving problems is to restart your phone→RESTART your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

By sending messages do you mean:

  • iMessages to other iPhones
  • SMS/MMS messages to non-iPhones
  • Sending email

For email, there is a new feature of mail that delays sending for 10 seconds to give you a chance to unsend the message. You can turn this feature off in Settings/Mail.

For SMS/MMS your carrier is completely responsible for how it works, and it is limited by your connection speed.

Streamed videos are limited by your internet connection speed, so that has nothing to do with the phone.

I’m using 13 PM and when I updated my software to ios 17 i notice a delay of connection to wifi. That’s why, I updated it to ios 17.0.3 when they launched the new update. But then, I notice another problem. My battery and my wifi. Before I sleep at night or stop using my phone. I turned off the wifi through the control center. But when i try to check my phone in the morning, the wifi is ON and my battery decreases. I never encountered this kind of scenario from ios 16.

Hi. I know it isnt about 11 pro, but i cannot find a thread with it. Since i updated to iOS 17 (then any other, which was latest, actually i have 17.1.1) i have issue with iPhone overheat alert. Its annoying. In iOS 17.0.3 (or something like that) thet said they did something with it. Since then its a little bit better, but still it isnt done. For example- on iOS 16.4 i didnt have that alert, but on 17 it appears, even when my phone isnt warm. If someone, who can give me advice, what can i do with it, or change something with that software, Please do it. I need to say that i have a new, original Apple battery, so it cant be caused by not original part

to every reader- have a nice day

Let’s define “overheating”. If an iPhone overheats it shuts down so it can’t be used, and displays a message saying it must cool down before it can be turned on, and it will probably be unusable for an hour or so. If you are seeing this it is a hardware problem and you should contact Apple support:

Note that both of the above have options to receive a callback or chat

If you are not seeing this your phone has not overheated. However, if you fast charge your phone it may pause charging at 80% and display a message saying that charging has paused, and will resume when the phone cools down. This is NOT overheating, and is normal when fast charging. The reason you didn’t see it before you updated is because previous versions of iOS it just paused at 80%, but kept it a secret.

Also, some apps that use a lot of energy or that use cellular data rather than Wi-Fi can cause the phone to run warmer.

Please do not update your iPhone 13 to iOS 17.1.1 dear friend. I got updated to same version few days ago and a green line appeared at the left corner of my iPhone 13. Contacted apple care and they don't know how to fix it in a virtual meeting. Instead, they advise me to travel 70 KMs to their store and pay them to check the issue.

Unexpectedly, today morning the line disappeared (community says it appears and disappears). What it means is that I hope you got! They don't know how to determine a hardware issue. They pressurise you or me or anyone to believe that it should've a physical damage from our side, their system is always perfect.

In my views, I lost faith on the tech giant Apple. I was a super fan of apple. Apple ruined the fandom and my peaceful days with their imperfect update to my MacBook M1 Pro and this iOS 17.1.1

I hope you understand the situation and step on to a better decision to wait for a cleaner update.
