Volume Buttons Not Working on iPhone

In some applications the Volume Buttons on my iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 17.1 just don't respond. I have to adjust the volume through control center. Restarting the phone fixes it temporarily and so does closing the app and reopening sometimes.

Any permanant fixes?

I too have a new iPhone 15 Pro Max. I’ve been having probs with the volume not working at times, as if it’s on mute, but it’s not. So I just went to settings n realized that Bluetooth is connected to my ear buds, which I haven’t used n days. I thought they wud disconnect when I put them back n the case. But I just recently started using ear buds so I’m still learning. Apparently I need to go to Settings n disconnect when I’m finished using them bcuz that fixed my volume probs.

Hi folks.

Been scavenging the whole internet for a month to resolve my volume button issue. Fortunately it's been solved. Let me give you some context.

Around a month ago, my upper volume button on my (at that time) three month-old iPhone 15 Pro Max started to not respond. I thought it was a software issue, so, naturally, I tried downloading the latest software updates, but to no avail.

So last weekend I went to the Apple Store where I purchased the device from, and after running some diagnostics, the employee told me there were two options - either completely resetting it, or having it repaired. I decided for the latter one, as only the front and back glasses and camera system would not be replaced - everything else (battery, hardware, etc.) would be brand new.

The whole operation took only 1,5 hours and was completely covered by warranty. The repair costs were upwards of EUR 700. The issue was due to a production fault.

Very satisfied with the service. So, if you're also experiencing the same volume button issue, go to the Apple Store and they'll fix it.

I called Apple Care and we fixed the issue. Turns out there was in settings- silence mode- that was turned on. probably turned on during last upgrade?

Anyway, the fix was:

settings>sounds & haptics->silent mode

make sure silent mode is OFF

should then work.

top button at the top on the left should then turn on and off.

to turn off I think it says press and hold

If this doesn’t work for you, I suggest calling Apple Care-there is not charge and

warranty is not required.

There must have been an update or something in last few nights because my side volume buttons on my IPhone 15 Pro Max stopped working this morning and I haven’t changed the volume in several days. After searching for awhile I found that in Settings in the Sounds and Haptics under the Ringtones and Alerts the “Change with Buttons” had been switched to off. Once turned back on everything works fine.

My issue on new PRO max 15 was not with the up and down volume buttons. It was with the little on off sound button at the top side left. Apple call agent told me how to fix it. Some of the settings on new phone are preset.

Anyway here is how I fixed it:

sound button at top of left side not working:

settings->sounds & haptics.

make sure silent mode is OFF the should work-it did for me.

(Mine was turned on) Maybe issue for the other sound buttons

should then work.

button should then turn on and off.

Hey,

You should Force Quit the Application when your volume button doesn't respond. Second, make sure you have turned off Focus mode on your iPhone. iPhone goes silent when you enable Focus mode.

Lastly, you can ask Siri to change your iPhone's volume control. This trick will temporarily fix your issue.

If nothing works, you should restart your iPhone and contact Apple support.
