This issue only occurs when using a modern charger with high power. Charging with the power adapter that came with older iPhones and a USB A to C cable does take longer, but the phone does not heat up much at all.

It’s called the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Anything that creates or uses energy does so with some loss. That lost energy is expressed as heat. So when you charge the phone it generates heat in the power source, heat in the charger circuit in the phone, and heat as the energy goes into the battery. The faster the charging, the more heat is generated. Likewise when you discharge the battery; not all of the energy from the battery gets to the circuits that use it. Some of it becomes heat. In particular, fast charging with a 20 watt power source will cause any smartphone to get very warm, so warm it may have to pause charging to cool down after 30 minutes or so.

This won’t do any harm to the phone, but if you don’t want it to happen use a lower current power source or charge wirelessly.

You seem to be a smart person but right now you’re being a troll. So as the old adage goes, if you have nothing nice to say then it’s best to say nothing at all. You’re really not providing anything further to this forum. You’ve given your explanation of it. What it comes down to is that it’s not something unheard of, it’s an actual issue, and there’s a flaw if it’s so inefficiently charging and it’s only with the 15 Pro. So please, if you don’t have a solution don’t frazzle the rest of us further to try and play up your intelligence because you’re making yourself out to be a smart *** not smart.

Hey I’m with you on this! I just got the 15, not plus or pro just plain Jane and it gets HOT when charging. I too had a iPhone 12 plus no problem with it getting hot at all. I was just running out of memory and thought it might be nice to get a new phone. I think I’m going to return this pos. Maybe go with a different brand all together. Because what Apple is saying is BS!

If Apple take too long to fix this issue then I will be returning said iPhone 15 Pro Max to my carrier. They know it’s a major issue and if they are blaming software there is no reason why they cannot fix this very quickly. This phone I have gets very hot that I have to place it down whilst it’s charging. Never have any of my iPhones done this and I have had an iPhone ever since Apple released them.

My old iPhone 14 Pro Max uses the same charger but the cable being a lightning cable is the only difference and never ever did this iPhone got that hot I cannot hold it.

Apple expect people to hold on but when you are paying well over £1100+ for a device it should be working without issue right out of the box imo.

My bf and I both got the new IPhone 15 max pro. He got his 2 months ago I got mine one month ago, we will both go to bed and plug in our phones and mine will be normal temperature and his will be so hot that you can’t hold it for longer than a couple seconds that is 100% not normal or OK for an iPhone and mine does not do that at all, but I will say that in the past two days my phone only has started randomly just turning off in the middle of me using it and it’s progressed where it does it like 10-30 times a minute it’s doing it right now as I type this is very annoying. Don’t like that we paid $1300 each for new phones and they are junk.

(Pasting this here because I actually replied to a comment instead of putting my own post.)

So you want me to charge my phone slower than it already is , just so it doesn’t heat up. It’s not a response as to why it’s getting hotter the reason it gets hotter is because it’s messed up and it’s a flaw which apple should have fixed pre-release. My iPhone 13 Pro is also 5g so don’t start on that or anything , it doesn’t merely get heat anywhere near the same amount as my 15pro
