iPad and Mac work properly. Adding new albums, playlist, songs works right on all devices. Playing a song on iPad or Mac will show on all devices. But no matter what I do, a song played on my phone will never show as played on my other devices.

A bunch of people have been having the same issue since updating iPhone to iOS 17.1. Seems to be a bug in the iOS. I've been talking to Apple Support but they don't seem to have any more reports from other users with this issue, so get in touch with Apple Support and let them know you're also having this problem. The more people who report it, hopefully we'll have an update soon with this resolved.
I just got a new iPhone 13 and am having this same issue. My old iPhone will still sync play counts, but the new one will not.
It's been 24 hour since I updated to the iOS 17.1.2 and play counts still aren't updating. Anyone else still having the issue persist after the update?

I see others saying the 17.1.2 update worked for them, but I'm still not seeing any changes in iTunes while using iPhone 13.
17.1.2 is not working for me. So frustrating. Hopefully the next significant update will correct this.

How can non developers get access to download 17.2 in advance? Just curious. Sounds like this may be available to general public maybe next week.
Ah, sorry...thought it was now on general release. It must be imminent.
There is a setting in Settings > General> Software Update.
