Question regarding the Amphetamine Drive Alive feature

Any Amphetamine users here? (that sounds hilarious, I mean the Mac app) 

I've had several external drives unmounting overnight and sometimes during long periods of inactivity and getting the "Disk Not Ejected Properly" warning when I return from to the Mac. 

I got Amphetamine to fix this and am wondering does Drive Alive only work when there is an active Amphetamine sessions running? I don't want to keep my Mac awake all night, I just want the drives to not unmount by themselves. 

I'm on a 2021 M1 MacBook Pro Max, I use it in clamshell mode, closed, with two monitors. Latest version of MacOS Ventura
