I need to buy a charging cable but can’t identify which generation my phone is.

Settings>General>About>Model... double tap there until you see an "Axxxx" code (where xxxx are four numbers).

  • If it is A2275 (Canada, United States), A2298 (China mainland), A2296 (other countries and regions) = 2nd Generation
  • If it is A2595 (United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Mexico, Saudi Arabia), A2782 (Japan), A2784 (Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan), A2785 (China), A2783 (other countries and regions) = 3rd Generation

When you tap directly on the Model Number another number like Axxxx will appear

That is so weird . . . and unintuitive. What were they thinking?

Mine says "MHGU3J/A", and then changes to "A2296".

As for charging options:

SE 1st Gen

  • Charging via USB [Lightning] to computer system or power adapter

SE 2nd gen Wireless charging (works with Qi chargers)

  • Charging via USB [Lightning] to computer system or power adapter
  • Up to 50% charge in 30 minutes with 18W adapter or higher

SE 3rd Gen

  • Fast‑charge capable Up to 50% charge in 30 minutes with 20W adapter or higher (sold separately) [Lightning]
  • Wireless charging (works with Qi chargers)

My 2nd Gen SE came with a 20 W charger, and a Type C to Lightning cable, but it was a refurb from Amazon.

I do not think they are all that fussy, but I suppose if you can take advantage of Fast-charge, then go for the 20 W power supplies.

It works with the 5 volt Type A USB power ports in generic power bars and the 12-volt automotive adaptors too.

When I get to the model, it just says iPhone SE. Tapping on this yields nothing further - no “A” number.

You're tapping on "Model Name". You need to tap on "Model Number." It's the thing right below that. Even the number that shows as default should give you the information if you type it into a search engine.

The serial # is F1**********. Can you tell me what series it is?

No.

Is eSIM housed in the cloud somewhere? I believe they are internally stored on the phone.

The poster who first mentioned "internal" SIM fairly obviously meant "eSIM".

But no, not every iPhone ever made had a SIM card (regardless of what you call it). The iPhone 4 CDMA model, released April 28, 2011 had no SIM of any kind.

Is there away to find my iPhone SE 3 Generation??even tho I have no info on my iPhone I use now is the only device listed so she deleted my other ones I had under my device..and she admitted this to a friend of mine that she has it and just bought a new SIM card for it…so do I have any chance to get it back????

If your iPhone was stolen, the chances are that you will never see it again. Even if you see its location using Find My, you could let police know the location – but it would be very unwise to travel there yourself. The criminals at that location might be people who would do you bodily harm, or even murder you.

It is a good idea to mark a stolen phone as Lost.

If you are telling us that the stolen phone is no longer associated with your Apple ID, then there is no way to use Find My to mark it as Lost, to request a remote Erase, or to track it.

It sounds like you think you know who stole the phone. If you or your friend have hard evidence, that might be a matter to bring to the attention of the local authorities. However, neither we (your fellow users on this board) or Apple will get involved with that.
