Mid 2009 Mac Book Pro

When reinstalling OS X El Capitan from disk utilities, after erasing, I get 403 errors after the eligibility step. I accept the licensing agreement and then choose my Macintosh hard drive, and finally sign in to the App Store. It request an authorization code, which I provide, and then it gives me a 403 error with for bidden when trying to access the server

No newer OS can be installed on your Mac without serious stability issues. Get a Snow Leopard retail or later installed system supported by your Mac on a hard drive to clone over if needed.

Snow Leopard Retail looks like

And does not say Upgrade, OEM, or Dropin.

> finally sign in to the App Store

Sorry but I did not quite follow. Are you installing from a DVD? Or from a bootable USB drive? AFAIK that could be done off-line without signing in anywhere.

Did you install "Mac App Store Update for OS X El Capitan" after the initial install?

After my El Capitan install (Mac mini late 2009) from a bootable USB drive there were these updates (I have archived some updates but some are only available on-line):

Off-line updates:

Security Update 2018-004 (El Capitan)

iTunes 12.8.2 for Mac

Apple Remote Desktop 3.9.3 Client

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 6.21

On-line updates:

Mac App Store Update for OS X El Capitan

iTunes Device Support Update

Safari 11.1.2
