Apple Wallet for CVS Care Card, then attempting Apple Pay

Apple Watch 9, Version 10.1. I was delighted to discover the option to add my CVS extra care card via the CVS app to my wallet. Went to self check, pulled up the bar code via Wallet for my extra care card and scanned it easily. Finished my purchase, and when I went to ‘double click’ to bring up the watch wallet again to my default credit card. Instead, a blurred image and eventually a message to the effect that the watch was ‘updating the wallet’ appeared. I was only able to get any response from the watch by shutting the watch off, re-starting and making the transaction, which went normally. The real kicker though, was that I later went to my grocer’s who always does apple transactions easily and when I double clicked the watch, got the same blurred image and message that the wallet was ‘updating’… had to turn off the watch, restart and then was able to make the transaction as I’ve done many times. I removed the CVS carepass app from my wallet. Any clues on what might be going on here?? Thanks !!
