Apple TV 4K 3rd Gen Amazon HDR10+

I just purchased a Samsung S90C TV and an Apple TV 4K 3rd gen. When using the Prime Video app on the Samsung TV, 4K videos in the list of videos will show a UHD icon and the HDR10+ icon next to it. On the Apple TV, the Prime Video app will show the UHD icon and just a generic HDR icon next to it; it doesn’t show the HDR10+ icon. Does this mean I’m not able to stream HDR10+ through the Apple TV. I don’t seem to know if it’s actually happening on my TV. I’ve gone through all my Apple TV settings and everything seems to be correct. I also have an 8K HDMI cable that passes the test Apple does and all my HDMI TV inputs are the latest 2.1. I have the video Format setting on “4K HDR (HDR10+)” and “Match Content” for dynamic range and frame rate are both on. Any ideas?

HDR10+ is working again on newer 2024 content on Amazon Prime Video - eg. Mr & Mrs Smith (2024 series), Squeezie: Thanks Internet (2024). Older content that used to have HDR10+ seems to be disabled. But the newer 2024 content is working. I have a Samsung TV, latest 3rd Gen Apple TV.

Also Paramount+ and AppleTV+ have HDR10+ content - works fine no issues.

Also make sure you have the latest updates for Amazon Prime Video app. Sometimes the auto update doesn’t always work. To manually update app on Apple TV - go to Apps -> Purchased -> All Apps -> Select app and check if there’s an update.

Hope it helps.

Cheers!

You should be able to get HDR10+ content from select content providers, if your equipment and your settings allow for HDR10+. You’ll need an Apple TV 4K (3rd generation); earlier models do not support this format. As said above, it may differ per show. Verify e.g. Apple TV+: if that gives you HDR10+ on a newish show, then the issue is not with the equipment. Or try one of these Prime shows or movies, known to be available in HDR10+: List of shows on Amazon Prime Video in HDR10+ (2018) - High-Def Digest. If a specific app (Prime) doesn’t play nice, then contact that content provider; it is their app and their stream after all.

Your setup supports HDR10+ by being able to select “4K HDR (HDR10+)”, but which apps actually bring that format, is up to each app developer or content provider. It may also differ by title.

Some TVs are able to show the exact format of the current stream. Not sure if or how Samsung supports that.

Other users have been reporting HDR10+ from Amazon Prime through their Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) box, so it seems to work.

I have the latest Apple TV 3rd Gen. HDR10+ used to work fine before on Amazon Prime. I have a Samsung TV. But for some reason lately all the HDR10+ has been disabled. Not sure why.

I also have Paramount+ and AppleTV+ and all HDR10+ content works fine without any issue. So I’m thinking the issue is with Amazon Prime. Hope they fix it soon.

Hope that helps.
