'Other Devices' using data even when Personal Hotspot is switched off

Same issue, hotspot off but saying used 3GB. Running the latest version 17.4 of ios.

Did you check with your provider that it’s really showing up on their meters? For my phone it was only ghost data showing up on my phone but not deducting from my account.

The “Reset Network Settings” didn’t work.

My hotspot is turned off and the “other devices” are currently pulling data again.

I’ll be calling tech support again tomorrow.

I’m also seeing this while using an eSIM.

Current data usage (after a day in Indonesia) shows 2.28Gb of which 2.17 is down to personal hotspot usage. I contacted the sim provider and from their perspective I’ve only used 155mb.

So it definitely seems to be an iPhone bug.

I have been using 2 different e-sims in 2 different countries and could not believe the data usage on the first one when it showed that I had exceeded my data limit. The provider app showed a much lower data consumption for this one. I am now sitting in Heathrow on a different e-sim since 3pm and it says I have used 3GB which is impossible as I have no other apps using the hotspot. It has to be a glitch with how e-sims are recording data via personal hotspot. Fingers crossed Apple addresses this in the not too distant future.

I am having trouble with my hotspot since I updated my phone to IOS 17, my suggestion is to let the developers know what is happening with your device, give them feedback on everything so they can help with the issue and improve your device performance.

Having the same issue here in Brazil, but it is eating up all my data.

My data plan renewed today, and by noon it already ate 5GB. I have 27GB total, and with the current cadence I'll be out of data in 5 days or so, this is ridiculous. Never heard of anyone having similar issues with Android devices.

This seems to be a major bug - especially hitting travellers. I have measured the actual consumption of data during a period and “other devices” is way higher than actual ( 6 times in fact). What matters is, that apple has not replied to any of the request made here.

Unless Apple is monitoring (Siri) and this comes side by side with actual data - it makes no sense at all!!

Did anyone figure out a way to stop it? please help😭

Interesting thanks. I’m not sure why Apple wouldn’t just tell us this though. I haven’t seen it. Talked about anywhere.

I have this same issue, iPhone 15 pro on iOS 17.2.1

i used to use 2 lines (physical and eSIM) but now just using 1 physical line and it still happens.

I also have an Apple Watch and wonder if it’s counting this in some odd way, perhaps it’s an issue with iPhone and wifi only watch

I'm having the same issue, bought a Nomad eSIM for Australia and New Zealand (Oceania 45 day 20GB one). Activated it yesterday and only turned it on occasionally while our sightseeing to use Google maps briefly and WhatsApp a few photos as we used WiFi in hotel. The thing used 842MB data in the first 24 hours! So I found this forum and decided to check my Nomad app and I’ve used 120MB. 722MB was to personal hotspot. I’m after turning it off now. And I believe the app! Phew!

I just had this problem WHEN THE PHONE WAS TURNED OFF!

I used 29GB of data in one day. I turned off the phone and turned it back on 20 minutes later to discover I had used 29.9GB. An extra GB while the phone was turned off.

I finally managed to stop the increases by changing the SIM PIN on my e-sim. It was set to the default when I bought the e-sim ('0000') and once I changed it, the ridiculous bandwidth usage stopped. I'm still at 29.9gb a few hours later.

I should note when I checked my usage via the mobile provider's #123# system, the provider said I had only used 1.2 GB of data.

Seems to be an Apple Bug.
