Which printer works with the new IOS Sonoma system?

Hi, I just updated my Macbook Air to the Sonoma 14.0 and now it seems like my printer (old one, still with cable..) won't work. I am trying to find another printer, but I would like to know which one is compatible with the system?

My Canon Pixma Pro 100 isn't working any more with my MacBook Pro since I updated to Sonoma 14.4.1. I do professional card printing and photo printing up to 13 x 19. Extremely disappointed you didn't inform your users that the upgrade would make certain printers unusable. I haven't see a reply to luddite_miriam's question for recommendations of printers that do still work with Sonoma 14.4.1

Well, I tell you an Epson workforce ET 2800 does not work at all they supposedly have a fix that you’ve been download so it’s compatible with Sonoma 14. I have been searching for a way to print on both sides of the paper I used to have that and it said with the update it would do that it does not what a waste of paper, I also got caught in Epson and Epson Support scam so I am 100% done with Epson printers highly do not recommend

Hi,

At least according to the following web page (with macOS 13 selected), macOS 14 support appears to have been added (October 31, 2023) to the HP Easy Start driver 2.14.0.231016.

Perhaps worth another attempt (after resetting the printing system)?

As always, make sure that you have backup copies of all important files before testing anything.

That's a nice long list and my printer is on it, but... ever since I installed Sonoma 14.4.1, my Brother MFC-L2710DW will not work. My Mac is not recognizing it and I can see it is a wifi connection issue, but I can't solve it. I thought that maybe my printer was too old, but since it is on that list it seems like buying a new printer might NOT be the answer. Can anyone give advice to someone who likes tech, but isn't a genius at it. Thank you.

Hi Sophie876,

Do you mean Brother HL-L2320D? If so, the Brother support page shows a printer driver for macOS Sonoma 14.

https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hll2320d_us_as&os=10080

This appears to be the same driver that has been in use since macOS 10.15 Catalina.

However, there have been some reports about difficulties with USB-connected Brother printers and macOS Sonoma, so you may consider this to be experimental. Check whether the printer firmware has been updated. If necessary, try resetting the printing system.

Printers listed as supported in the About AirPrint - Apple Support article should be compatible with the latest macOS versions.

According to their website, Brother says you need the iPrint & Scan app. It is apparently on the App Store.

There are also instructions on how to configure it for AirPrint.

First of all, have you tried the latest firmware update 04/18/2024 (ZC)?

Since the Brother MFC-L2710DW has Ethernet in addition to Wi-Fi, you may want to check whether a cable connection to one of the LAN ports of the Wi-Fi router would change anything. AirPrint works with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) network connections.

The Brother HL-L2340DW is listed as a supported printer in the June 18, 2024 en-us edition of About AirPrint - Apple Support. This means that it should be possible to use it with AirPrint under macOS Sonoma 14. Additional drivers should not be required. Make sure that the printer is connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router) as the Mac.

Ok, I see your current HP printer only supports a direct USB connection.

FWIW, I have had a number of printer brands over the years, but typically have been very happy with the HP line. My current printer, an AIO HP OfficeJet 6970 (about 7 years old) works well with my Macs (running macOS Sonoma) & PCs (running Windows 11). It has both Ethernet & wireless connectivity.

If you have a wireless network, I suggest the replacement printer have both wireless & Ethernet connectivity. Most newer HP AIO printers have this feature. In addtion, be sure to get a printer model that supports AirPrint as this will allow you to print from an iPhone/iPad, and print from a Mac without worrying about printer drivers.

I suggest looking at the HP OfficeJet line. Something like the HP OfficeJet 8015e or the HP OfficeJet 8210.
