Storage issue on new IMac

I have a new (5\23)iMac desktop Mac OS Sonoma 14.1 and have no storage left after deleting all my photos, docs and even GarageBand app to make room. There is absolutely no room. I have Photoshop and Lightroom but not sure if that’s on my computer or iCloud. Im confused with this new computer and I don’t know if iCloud is part of the problem. I need help

OK, good work 176 GB in ./Library/Application Support/CloudDocs/

Sonds like iCloud Drive has gone crazy, do you have backups

  • Okay so seems like these are just temp files since free space is increasing on mac as I download cloud content –

  • I have a similar issue where I have 1807 versions of a few Pages and Numbers files in the CloudDocs folder, nothing else. It doesn't make too much sense to me. I suspect this is causing my TM backups to become corrupted. –

Apple's guidance: Free up storage space - Apple Support

Right click Macintosh HD in Finder and then do a Get Info. Look for "purgeable".. Mine usually hovers around 2-3GB which is pretty good.

I use Daisy Disk paid to reduce purgeable. Or you can simply way for the OS to return its space to Available. How long that takes is not always clear, but Apple says it will eventually be done.

i have to download Daisy Disk? Or is it on computer?

It's a third-party app. If you want the full version, you have to buy it from the App Store or from the developer's Web site. On the App Store, it has an "Editor's Choice Award", but you would still want to think carefully about what (if any) of your files to archive or delete, rather than blindly deleting stuff.

The Web site has a free trial version that "is not limited in time" but that locks out some features that you would get with a paid version .

Did you migrate anything from an oder Mac?

Start with this of M1 or M2 Mac...

On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.

Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.

Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.

Select a volume.

Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.

The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

Restart normally.

I wasn't Yelling :). I have no Documents in my folder bc I DELETED everything LOL.

I have only the apps that came with this computer plus PHOTOSHOP, LIGHTROOM, and BRIDGE, but not sure if thats on the cloud ...I am new to all this.

Im getting frustrated and I do appreciate your help. I did not give any terminal commands. I don't understand what you wanted me to do, if I was supposed to do anything. i just click on it and told you what was there. I am not tech friendly :(

It didnt work last night bc you forgot to tell me to press enter the first time

I did it this morning and it was a long....like hundreds of pages, i did make a mistake in the beginning when asked if i would let it have full access to my photos :( i said no bc i didnt have any on there, but I know I should have now. Gave it full access to everything else

so i made a copy and pasted it into PAGES doc.

now what?

Nov 6, 2023 6:39 AM in response to BDAqua

Can I attach the PAGES file instead? And how can I have it access my photos too, in case they have remnants somewhere else? Is there a preference folder in Terminal? I tried restarting the computer and hoped it went back to the default setting but didn’t ask to access my photo the next time I did it :/
