Air Drop 39GB File transfer how long?

I’m trying to transfer a 39GB file from my iPad to iPhone 12. So far it’s taken 2 hours with no sign of completing. How long should it take to transfer? The iPad said that the iPhone had accepted the file so why is it still downloading after 2 hours? Is the file too big? It’s frustrating that there is no progress bar to show how near completion the transfer is.

Did you have Wi-Fi on and enabled on both devices, and both on the same network? AirDrop will use Wi-Fi for the transfer if available; if it was using only Bluetooth I’m not surprised it failed as BT is very slow.

Other options include Apple Mail Drop (just email it, and for a large attachment Apple Mail will upload to their server, and provide a link for the recipient to download it: Mail Drop), Google One, just syncing to iCloud, box.com or Dropbox.com.
