Storage system verify or repair failed -69716

To solve this, I have tried to reinstall MacOS (big Sur), having tried using fixing from utility. When reinstalling MacOS, I was met with this error as well so I have no idea how to get around this. My iMac didn't successfully backup to my USB when I tried to recover through time machine. Need support

You likely have a failed drive. Please take the computer to your local Apple Authorized Service Provider to have it professionally diagnosed. Then once you have empirical data you can make an educated decision.

Finally resolved the issue. Thanks to a suggestion on https://macreports.com/storage-system-verify-or-repair-failed-how-to-fix/ that the MacOS upgrade be done incrementally. I upgraded from Mojave to Catalina, Catalina to Big Sur, and finally Big Sur to Monterey.

Hope this is useful to someone out there!
