I can login using Apple Watch, but not using the new password. Can I see my new password anywhere, to make sure it is the one I just changed to? If not, how do I change the pw to one that is accepted using Safari to login to icloud.com?

I did. Going to the App Store was fine, but when I signed out of Apple Support Communities then signed in again it would not accept my new password (using my watch worked as before). AppleID just does not accept my new password(s). I tried new passwords just in case, but none would work.
Btw, the link you gave states: "This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple." in red.
I don't dare sign out of AppleID on my Macbook because it will erase too much, and I might not be able to sign in again if the password is not accepted.
