pixelated squares on my mac, that come and go

A few times a month I get pixelated squares on the screen of my mac. They vanish when I move the mouse but will reappear in a different place a few days later.

Seems like a hardware issue rather than with the actual screen as it's normal aside from this.

Does anyone know what it could be or how to reset this issue?

This box isn't letting me attach an image unfortunately.

Try and boot the Mac in the safe mode to see if the issues persist

if they do not persist in the safe mode, they are caused by an external piece of software . You might want to evaluate the software installed to your mac

Start up your Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode

On your Mac, choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
Select a volume.
Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

Start up your Intel-based Mac in safe mode

Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key until you see the login window.
Log in to your Mac.
You might be asked to log in again.
On either the first or second login window, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

Thank you. The issue I’m having is these boxes aren’t persistent - ie it’s like a few times a month then they vanish. So I would need to be in safe mode for a month to see if it happens again.

is there another way of checking whether this is an issue to do with hardware?

I run all the usual checks and it says the computer is fine. Yet this seems to be a hardware issue as it’s not connected to any software I use as it can happen at any time.
