My iMessages are missing after restoring my iCloud backup to new iPhone

Firstly, YES, my messages were checked to be backed up to iCloud. I backed up everything successfully before upgrading to new iPhone.

  • I am missing my iMessages after the restore finished. I have years of texts there. Can I get them back? Why did this happen?
  • Also, I do notice that those messages are still showing on my Mac (hallelujah!) How can I transfer those to my iPhone?

I just moved over to a 15pm and after everything from the backup was restored, my messages app was empty. I think this is what has been described by other posts above.

check Settings/Apple ID/iCloud/Messages in iCloud

I found a setting there to sync my messages and they are restoring as we speak.

Razmee we both fully understand the features, what we are saying is the iMessages are not downloading to our new phones. Nothing in either articles you shared helps our situation. It's clear the original poster is also using the iCloud for messages feature as they are on their Mac, but not appearing on their phone, same as me.

This was not helpful. My messages where selected to be part of the backup. And I need a solution.

Please read my original response that answer your question, click on each link so you actually understand what you did when you selected message.

Again you do not select message to be backup as it is already included, what you selected what syncing to the cloud.

There is no checking message for backing up to icloud, what you checked was this Set up iCloud for Messages on all your devices - Apple Support

Which is different than this What does iCloud back up? - Apple Support
