Apps crash immediately on startup only when phone is connected to wifi

I have a new iPhone15 pro on iOS 17.0.3 but this problem started already on my previous iPhone 11.

A number of apps, for example the Onecta Daikin app to control my A/C system and the MyHeating app to control my bathrooms, crash immediately on startup after about 1-2 seconds.

Incidentally I noticed today that this only happens when my phone is connected to wifi. If i diwconnect the phone from wifi I am able to start and use the apps as normal.

I have tried to google the issue but haven’t found any solutions.

Would anyone be able to help?

Are you using VPN on your iPhone? If so, delete the VPN app and profile and see if that resolves the problem. If it does, you can try adding VPN back, although VPN really adds nothing to the security of your phone and will slow it down to about 1/4 of your network speed.

If you are not using VPN, or removing it does not resolve the problem, Open Settings

Tap General
Tap Transfer or Reset Phone
Tap Reset
Tap Reset Network Settings

This will erase all Wi-Fi passwords, but will not result in any other data loss.
