Can an M1 iMac, OS Sonoma, Mac Superdrive play Blu-ray?

Yup, Apple does not support Blue Ray. However with third party software and a Blue Ray drive such as a https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MR3UBDRW16/ it will work.
I wouldn't hold your breath for Apple to natively support Blue Ray though.
