iPhone keeps asking for Outlook password

And unlike the other accounts, there seems to be no way to update my password on my iPhone. I see the four accounts on the others. I click in the name click on my name again and there’s an opportunity to update the password in settings.

But when I click on the Outlook account under my name, nothing happens. Over the years the location for updating your password or the network settings on the phone or computer has changed multiple times which gets a little confusing but I can see where I can do it right here in the phone for my Gmail accounts but not outlook.

I have accepted new Eula yesterday via the web on all of my Hotmail/live accounts and I still get the password prompt today. So, curious to see how everyone else got this fixed permanently by doing that.

Could something have been pushed overnight and no notification show up on my phone or iPad? Oddly both are working fine this morning. Neither asked for my password. Maybe I shouldn’t boast just yet, but finding it surprising.

Likely something was fixed in their infrastructure which I think makes sense as it was impacting so many levels of iOS. That or maybe MS fixed something in the systems.

Yeah.. I think Apple fixed it. I tried every suggestion listed here, including the Eula agreement and I was still experiencing the password prompt issue until the last 1-2 days. Up until yesterday, I was so fed up with it I clicked “cancel” when I had the prompt. Now, it doesn’t show up anymore.

DHWD - thanks for your update! Just an FYI, my resolution is posted after yours. I have 8 different hotmail accounts, some are set to PUSH some FETCH. All are working as they should since I fixed mine the way I did. Hope that helps if you want PUSH.

DHWD…great to hear! Sometimes fixes only work based on the specific build of apps on the device…that’s why I posted what worked for me to see if it could help others. Click HELPFUL to bump for others!!

The same thing kept happening to us.

Now, all of my email is gone from the app & it won’t let me log into the app. When I try to, it says, I’m already logged it.

I agree w/everyone stating that there has to be better beta testing, before a roll-out.

Fwiw, I deleted my hotmail account from the phone this week and have been trying to re add it using outlook dotcom setup on the iPhone (iOS 17.1.1, iPhone 11) and it won’t take my password (which I manually typed into notes so I could see that it is correct before copying and paying into the setup password field). Did not accept my password

I don’t know about that…I haven’t created any ‘app password’ for any of my 8 Hotmail/Outlook accounts, and all is working fine since performing the steps I did, as I outlined on page 14(the page before this) of this topic. What seems most plausible to me is that after installing edge on my iPhone and logging into each Hotmail/Outlook account in the Edge app, the EID or IMEI of my iPhone was added to the Outlook authentication server. I am thinking something in the IOS 17.xx update broke or is masking those numbers from the Microsoft authentication server during the handshake and needs to be initiated again…AND can only be accomplished initially with thru or via a MICROSOFT app. Could it be once Microsoft authenticated the user on the iPhone or iPad it leaves an authentication/identifying ‘cookie’ (for a lack of a better word) on the device…and somehow the iOS 17 update wiped them out? Dunno. But I never set up an ‘app’ password. Wish I could say definitively. Good luck to you and every else dealing with this madness! 👍🙏😇

What do you mean “app password”? The mail setup screen asks me for my email address, and then the next field is the email account password. The password that works in my laptop when I visit outlook live using a laptop browser in windows does not work in iPhone mail setup. Problem has not changed as of 15:11 EST today

I am still unable to add back my hotmail account in "mail" or in "outlook". and the only reason i am here replying is because the password worked fine in my browser so i saw the message telling me new replies were here.

I cannot change my Outlook password on my ios 16 iPhone 13 plus and my password works just fine on my PC. This has never happened before until I just changed my password on my PC where it should just synch on my phone and certaily work when I manually type in the correct one. I just keep getting that annoying message that says I need to sign in. If your going to update your software why isn't this taken care of as this is a game changer on the anger barometer for me!!

(Jan 08, 2024) I have been prompted by Outlook to "sign in" for years and I just ignore it and everything worked fine - until now. I have iPhone 12 ProMax and regardless of the iOS, this always comes up and has never been a problem. BUT NOW it tells me to "Please sign in to your IMAP account". I have tried doing this a dozen times and even though my password is correct, it still won't let me sign in. I cannot access my email or send email on my phone anymore using Outlook. What ****** me off is this only started a few days ago (the IMAP message). Anyone else get this specific message?

I am on 16.5 and this is happening to me. It suddenly started without having made any changes or updates to my IOS Device. I am neither a fan boy of Apple or Microsoft. I have not changed my Outlook password. It remains as is and works perfectly in Outlook on my PC. I type in the proper password on my IOS Mail App and it just comes right back. I personally think this is two conglomerate Tech Giants messing with each other and refusing to play well together or forcing people to move to their apps so they can collect more data on you. I personally am sick of the big tech companies believing because you use their products that gives them the right to own you and your data. It's not like they are giving their products away for free.

It is exceptionally annoying.
