So, the fix is to go to the Hotmail / Microsoft website and sign in manually instead of using Apple mail or another mail program.
Hotmail has a new user agreement you must agree to or they keep making your account irritating to use.
So haven't had this in a long time on iPhone BUT getting it on my 16" MPB (M1 Max up to date Sequoia) so after my usual fixes that didn't work I tried your "Exchange" fix and so far so good 3 days later. :)
I only changed it to an Exchange account on the MBP Mail app.
Did nothing to mail app on my iPhone (16pm) account yet.
thanks
Ok for IMAP
Does not work for POP
But is is set up as an IMAP or POP acct?
I've just about had it with this issue. It happened for several weeks about a year ago, the year before that and then recently, for the last 3 weeks. Almost daily mac mail app / iPhone says I need to input my hotmail password as well as my saying my Microsoft Teams password is incorrect. So I change them. Then it says I've tried too many times today - to try again tomorrow.
I know neither wants to spend money on this issue (Outlook / Apple) but frankly, if Apple want us to continue using their products which, after buying Office 365 you are supposed to be able to use for business (mostly Microsoft based) then I think it's Apple's issue. I've approached an IT guy about it and he says that's why he doesn't use Apple (most don't).
It's not as simple as moving my email address to another provider as I've had this one for 25 years and a lot of information is stored on it.
The more people that write in and complain the sooner something will get done about it.
This is particularly annoying as my Outlook for Mac does not allow for scheduling when an email is sent. As a result, if I want to use that feature I must keep them both synched.
Brave new world of paperless work indeed - no paper just burn your storage like crazy and slow down your processor.
Has there been any updated response from Apple?
Yup- I got the same but then I have only been working on this with Apple engineering since February of this year so I think they’ll find a solution when Elon brings the astronauts back from the Space Station 🤞🏼
Brilliant solution! Driven to distraction that Hotmail account on iPad and iPhone recognises username and password which has been changed frequently Mac doesn’t recognise these at all. We got a Mac as we were advised that it is simple to have all Apple products as they sync to each other but obviously not with a Hotmail account
Should have mentioned I've dealt with this for years. At least 5 or more years. It used to just accept the password when I put it in when asked.
But recently it started giving me message "unable to verify account or password".
If I waited a day or so it would go back to normal on MBP.
Got tired of doing that so went Exchange route as I mentioned above.
When I updated my phone to iOS 18, my email keeps asking me for my passwords. I enter the correct password but it doesn’t work just updated to iOS 18.01 got the same problem keeps asking me for my password. How do I fix this passwords.
This is happening on all three of my family iPhones since last week. One that is updated to 16.7.2 is happening 3x a day since 11/10/23
Thanks, i tried that but i don’t see any option to agree to the user agreement. Where can i find that option?
i only have the problem on my iPad, not (yet) on my iPhone.
Thank you! This is the only solution that actually worked. Such a simple yet unclear answer.
Doesn't work for POP only IMAP
Microsoft says it’s an Apple issue
Apple says it’s a Microsoft issue
Yes, I know- everyone is shocked to see them passing the buck haha NOT
Exchange is for IMAP accounts. I have to use POP
