MacBook Pro Battery status repeatedly switches between charging and not charging when plugged in
Alright so i have a pretty weird problem with my 2020 MacBook Pro: Whenever i try to charge it and plug it in, it keeps switching between the three battery charging states "charging", "not charging" and "running on battery" very quickly and repeatedly every second or two. This can go on for more than ten minutes before it stops and the battery charges normally until its charged fully, although the time it takes for it to stop can be pretty random, sometimes it only takes a minute. I have no idea what is causing this and would be grateful for any insight and help i could receive. I first ran into this issue pretty recently, about a bit more than a month ago.
For your information:
- i bought a new cable from apple since the one i was using previously did look pretty busted
- i tried different chargers and power outlets in different rooms
- i tried to reset the smc multiple times by restarting the computer
- battery health is at 86% and the status is "normal"
- This issue occurs on both usb c ports
- both usb c ports look clean to me and work without issue with other devices like my iphone or usb sticks, where the connection is never interrupted
At this point i am pretty annoyed with this, since it does eventually work but im still worried by macbook might be damaged or something so i would appreciate any help i could get to fix this.
PS: i mostly charge my macbook when the battery is low (around 10%), so maybe this is instability that has to do with a low charge, since it does work after a while and then charge like it should without interruption, until i plug it in again when it is at a low charge, when this starts again.
