Home and lock screen battery drainage on iPad

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my frustration regarding a recurring issue I have been experiencing with my iPad. Despite ensuring a full charge and leaving it idle, I consistently find the battery completely drained upon returning to use the device.

Upon investigating the issue in the settings, I noticed that the “Home & Lock Screen” is consistently listed as the culprit, consuming 100% of the battery even during periods of inactivity. This has become a recurring problem, and it’s particularly concerning given that the iPad is less than a year old.

I have attempted various troubleshooting steps, including restarting the device and adjusting settings, but the problem persists. I would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and request guidance on how to resolve this issue or any potential solutions you may offer.

I am facing the exact same issue. Running iPadOS 17.5.1 on iPad Air 4th Gen. Tried restarting several times.

One night I observed that the screen even though was black the backlight was turning on and off repeatedly. Not sure why this was happening. Maybe this is the cause for the battery drain during Standby. Home and LockScreen taking up all the battery when it is just sitting on Standby.

The below screenshot is of the same issue happening after resetting the iPad as well.

Sorry dear support but implementing all these checks makes little sense. The problem is known and cannot be solved in any way. Besides, why should I disable notifications or location I need or use a low-power battery. We customers and financiers of the Apple brand would like to know if these are policies implemented to push for the change of device or other. The battery is a serious problem that Apple doesn't want to solve. Without doing anything with other brands, I don't have any consumption given by home and lock screen. But really zero. Explain to me without beating around the bush why Apple forces us to suffer these problems that others don't have? Thank you. I state that none of your many suggestions revolve the problem. Sad thing. To say the least.

Begin with a forced-restart of your iPad - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

Otherwise, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

If you're experiencing battery drainage on your iPad's home and lock screen, consider these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Battery Usage: Go to Settings > Battery to see which apps or processes are consuming the most power. This can help identify if a specific app is causing the issue.

2. Update iOS: Ensure your iPad is running the latest version of iOS. Sometimes, battery drain issues are resolved with software updates.

3. Reduce Brightness: Lower the screen brightness or enable Auto-Brightness in Settings > Display & Brightness.

4. Disable Background App Refresh: Turn off Background App Refresh for apps that don't need to update content when not in use. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh.

5. Turn Off Notifications: Disable notifications for non-essential apps in Settings > Notifications. This reduces the activity on the lock screen.

6. Use Low Power Mode: Enable Low Power Mode to extend battery life. This feature can be found in Settings > Battery.

7. Disable Location Services: Turn off Location Services for apps that don't need it. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services.

8. Restart or Reset: Restart your iPad. If the problem persists, consider a factory reset after backing up your data. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

9. Battery Health: Check if your battery needs service. If your iPad is older, the battery might be degrading. You can check this in Settings > Battery > Battery Health (if available).

10. Contact Support: If none of these steps help, contact Apple Support for further assistance.

Implementing these steps should help reduce battery drainage on your iPad’s home and lock screen.
